I look forward to seeing your pictures of the rotisserie, I have been considering purchasing one myself.

They had them on display at the practical classics restoration show a few weeks ago and certainly give you good access for welding underneath.

The one I've bought is seriously cheap Andy... like 25% of what I expected to pay!
I'm dubious as to how good it can be but they've sold loads and had glowing feedback for it so...
I'll post pics of it as soon as I have the car safely mounted on it. If that happens!

When you've finished with the rotisserie you can rent it out to us lot - you might get quite a waiting list! :P

Eagerly anticipating some more photos

I'm away at the moment but I've just had a message that it's been delivered! Hoping to get it mounted at the weekend.
Pics will follow if it works...

Here it is!!
Very scary seeing it like this. Took a couple of afternoons to get it mounted correctly. As it is an ultra budget model it has no lifting facility- you have to use jacks/engine hoist to get it to the right height before bolting it to the rotisserie. But I'm not complaining- for £255 delivered to my door, complete with my custom designed mounts specifically for the X1/9... could be the best purchase I've ever made! I'll post a link to it when they list again on ebay.
It will make welding the sills and floor a pleasure. Which is just as well as there is a lot to do!
Ironically, now that it's mounted I'm leaving it alone while I rebuild the engine...

Impressive! Its strange being able to see it all upside down!

It looks like there is a vertical division panel behind the radiator on the earlier cars? What's that for? Not on my 1500...

I wondered that myself. It's over ten years since I briefly owned a 1500 and I never saw behind the radiator so I didn't realise it's only on the early cars. I did wonder what it's for though...

My 1300 project car has got the vertical panel behind the radiator as well. I'll need to look at it in the daylight to see how it fits up against the radiator. it's not there on my GF though. it could be to do with air flow or perhaps stopping the radiator from flexing??

The rotisserie looks good. I'd be interested in the link when you see it again.

Don't leave the car upside down for too long, it'll get a headache!!

Hi Andrew, You'll have some fun now, best investment for the car I ever did getting a rotisserie. You'll get the chance to look over everything. I had mine in the air for over two years. Good luck.

Although I have a small garage having the rotisserie gave me a lot of room once put on its side. you can see the jig being set up!!!

Engine progress. Block has been bored out +0.6mm, bores honed and top surface skimmed by the tiniest fraction possible to get rid of a few scratches. Some very minor pitting still visible around the water jacket holes but it can't be felt by hand really. Gasket will seal that easily. Brand new KS pistons in with a freshly polished crank and new bearing shells. I'll finish assembling the block tomorrow then make a start on the head.
I've been watching Guy Croft's dvd and I'm wondering if I've got the balls to do some porting/polishing...

If Guy Croft says Hammerite is good enough for his blocks, it'll do for mine! They have changed the formulation of Hammerite in recent years though; it's very different now. Probably not changed for the better...
They don't make grey either so this is half black and half white mixed. Looks great! Well, as great as grey could look, I suppose. The last engine I rebuilt was a Citroen CX 2.4 motor. Factory colour for CX blocks was bright orange! Much more fun... lol.

You're welcome mate. We're all here for the same reasons- to preserve our little Baby Ferraris... I look at other peoples' posts for inspiration all the time! Nothing spurs you on like a pic of a shiny car!

Cylinder head stripdown and inspection is this coming Monday :-)

I enjoy the restoration process but my work has suddenly got quite busy and I fear the car might not be completed this year... At the start of this whole thread I said I planned to drive over the Alps to Italy in this X1.9 later this year but it's looking unlikely now... the car is waaay rougher than I thought and I don't have enough time to finish it before the summer. And I refuse to cut corners; I like to take my time and do it right. So my trip may have to wait another year... unless I buy another X1.9 to use in the meantime... hmmm, now there's a thought...!
Then again, it's my 50th next year so I should maybe do it then instead! That would be the sensible thing to do... lol.
I'm not looking on ebay at all... honest...
