sparky some very good idea's,very modern idea's,modern idea's that can help the club survive, that's why i started the facebook group admittedly not everyones cup of tea but there again a lot of people use it,its the biggest social network in the world,we have almost 300 members on there in a short period of time, for me its time consuming as i try to keep it 'fresh' and interesting but i don't mind because i want this special club to survive whilst encouraging members participation ,if we made our membership price more acceptable we could gain many more members from overseas who would be online memberships only, your last few words summed it up 'we need to reach people every way we can' well said!!

Pete, I think your idea of lower/variable membership fees is interesting, and it might attract some more members, but would they be ACTIVE members? I think that's the important bit. Do we want a shed load of passive members?
I'm only posing the question, don't actually know the answer!

Good points Juliet - more members = more contributing and a big part of the blocker is the membership fee. Opening up the forum will also increase the traffic.

The facebook group has raised the awareness of our club and we have new members on a daily basis. I have messaged many of them and the message I get is that we are too expensive & no open forum....

I appreciate that Facebook is not for everyone - but I can tell you its far more active than this site and that is a fact.

For me the club is about being able to get some help and technical advice when needed and meet other exxy owners.

I know Mark puts a huge amount of effort into the mag and I like to read it and all credit to Mark for making it a success.

Personally if Mark was to say lets stop the printed mag it wouldn't make me want to leave the club or start complaining. If it was available online then that would save a lot of effort and cost for the club and maybe a better alternative if we could post articles online for a rolling magazine?

I would luv to be able to go to a big meet and see some more exxy's or maybe some classic car shows and a few of turn up. I think the car is a great little car and l hope it really lasts and becomes the classic it deserves to be...

Maybe the facebook site is the way to go.. I am not on it yet but I guess I will join, just didnt want to be bombarded with requests to be added by people I didn't like at school!

Seeing resto's and mods is also part of the club and I must admit without the internet, the club and the people on here I think the exxy would have rusted away and be gone off our roads a long time ago. I certainly could never have my exxy work without the club and the help from the forum...

So well done committee and long live the club...

hi terry the club has always offered technical advice and its always been free, the technical guys in the club are fantastic. about the shows...exactly we want to show off our little beauties, shows and meetings are what the 'hardcore' members want,a nice sunny day, beautiful cars, great people....chuck a sunday roast in and you have got some happy people, whatever position you hold within the club it can sometimes feel like a thankless task, but then out of the blue someone says 'thanks'.....but the way to be a successful club is a club that listens to its members.....

terry regional officers arrange all the local meets not high ranking committee members, they arrange the national meet but arranging this years national meet has been left very late, members asking the regional officers when is it happening and the regional officers not being told the information needed, lasts year national was sorted out by february also the committee needs to find ways to make this club more appealing to non-members but £30 a year just does not appeal to them.....ideas have been put forward but met with lukewarm reception ...

This thread reminds me off one that was started a few years ago, by my good lady, Jacqui, (dallaraturbo), regarding membership fees and opening up the forum. Unfortunately after three pages of replies/opinions the whole thread was deleted by some anonymous committee member without any explanation.

In my brief time as a member of this forum, I have had two threads deleted, one was restored with a poor excuse, the other 'so much for change part 1' is still lost in hyperspace with no explanation.

This kind of behaviour and the banning of fully paid members, ie George (biggbn), for no reason, no explanation and no refund, does little for the reputation of this club.

This Whole Site has to OPEN UP, IT WILL NOT SURVIVE, UNLESS THERE IS CHANGE

charlie i don't know of any other car club that does not have an open forum....it's the way forward, give people a taste of what this club's about and they are more likely to join, lets get into the 21st century along with all the other clubs....online magazine's are a feature of most clubs,no thread should be deleted unless it's abusive or insulting, freedom of speech, freedom of opinion.....as a club we need to club together to make it work better and more efficiently ...pete

Neither the citroen car club nor 2CVGB (I am members of both) have a forum open to non-members. However this topic is being discussed there too!

well i never would have thought of going on a citroen or any french car site, but just did and went on their site and you get to see more as a non member of their club than a non member of this club,i know because i have just been on nearly every bit of the 2cvgb site....and they have 2,600 members not 370 like us

Easy way to solve this guys and gals, just create some open forum subjects for non members to post into rather than open it all up. If it gets spammed or u get loads of nutters posting etc. Just delete the forum thread. Keep the rest locked down to members and it will keep it mice and neat and free from obsenities.
