Fair comment about trying to save it, it's good to try and keep as many on the road as possible, however, I would give Rachel's offer some consideration.
By the time you have got repair or replacement panels or stripped down another it probably will have cost more than buying another shell. Plus the further you go investigating this one the more horrors I think you will find.
It's your call though and good luck with whatever you decide.

If you decide it's a little too far gone it won't be wasted time as what you learn about what and where to look can best be done by experience of stripping it down. Also it may make a good donor car if you buy another project that has missing/broken parts - gearbox, trim, headlights, whatever. For example I used a roof off of a 'project' as my original had been badly resprayed and as it doesn't have a lining (as standard?) I get another important inch of headroom
Have a look at the rear turrets. They are triple skineed and difficult to repair. If they have gone, maybe best to use the good bits on another she'll. Sorry.
I should add Mark that the vast majority of us are here to enjoy the car and spend a lot of money pursuing that enjoyment - we are not here to make a profit so we do tend to take an optimistic view of any restoration project!
the way i look at it is that i paid £151 for the whole car, its in my workshop even if i don't repair it i would still strip it for part, that said a weeks welding in between customers cars is not going to cost me anything really but time
a up date on project rot box it has become project spare parts after cutting into it there was to much rot in the main structure unfortunately. But t thank you too Rachael F I have a good shell pics to follow. Now my question is what engine to fit into it ? I now have the luxury of a mock up engine bay from the project rot which I will cut out before it goes to scrap . I've got a feeling this might upset some people but I was thinking of trying to squeeze a VW AAA vr6 engine in there ? Any thoughts on what other options are out there ?
Glad the shell has gone to a good use. The X engine bay is very small. Alfa V6s have been squeezed in with some surgery and someone has put a Fiat 5 cylinder engine in an X1/9, so a VR6 should be possible. When I had an A3 3.2 as my daily I did this with Photoshop - maybe it will inspire you!
