Hi all

Have bleed the clutch master cylinder at the outlet pipe and have fluid then went to the bleed nipple and have fluid coming out there but have nothing at the pedal. Anyone have any thoughts.

have you tried pumping the pedal up and down by hand?

Jam the clutch pedal on the floor before you go to bed. Then try again in the morning

get a one man brake bleeding kit and you can do it easily yourself. I did the brakes and the clutch on my X last years following replacing both master cylinders. When you do the brakes. Start bleeding from the rear nearside caliper and then do the rear offside, then front nearside and finally the front offside. So working from the furthest away to the nearest to the master cylinder.

The one man brake bleeders have a one way valve so you don't need someone to undo the bleed nipple while you pump the pedal down and then hold it while they tighten the nipple up.

It works well. You just need to make sure you dont get carried away and let the resevoir run dry of brake fluid.

Something like this. Halfords sell them as well as most motor factors. I have a vacumn one that fits on a compressor to suck the fluid through the system. cost me about £30 didnt work. My one man bleeder for a tenner was brilliant......

Hi Terry

Thanks for that I will get one and see what happens. Decided to leave it alone for a few days and get on with some thing else. Let my brain clear and then go back to it. Will let you know how it goes.

Hi all

Had another go at the clutch and think the problem may be a collapsed flexible pipe. This would also explain why all the brake lines seem to be blocked. I will order some new ones and see what happens.

Hi all

Well after nearly 20 years of nothing we now have a working clutch. Will have a look at the brakes next. Can someone tell me what the correct sequence is.

Thanks

Rich

I open all the nipples and let them drip bleed. Then close nipples and start at furthest away from master working forward.

I'm guessing this is probably my problem as well.
Just got an 86 Bertone X1/9.

Clutch is to the floor.
Can lift it with my foot.

I guess it could be worse and won't really know until I start tearing into it.

Hi All
Just acquired my 1985 bertone VS took it out for a test drive only to find brake pedal is solid no movement at all and no stopping power to brakes.
if anyone has any ideas would be pleased to hear from you.
i first thought it could be the booster but can't seem to find any reference to one in the manual does this mean changing the master cylinder or the seals have done all standard checks with no joy.
can anyone help
Many thanks
Darren

Hello Darren,
It sounds as though you will have to overhaul the master cylinder as a minimum but also give the whole system a very thorough check. Better safe than sorry. As you may have gathered, the master cylinder is a pain to get at on a standard car.

If you are replacing the master cylinder it would be worth replacing the flexible hoses to the callipers at the same time and also possibly the hose from the reservoir to the master cylinder. As Martin says give the brake system a thorough overhaul.

Also, if you are replacing your master cylinder it would be worth checking the clutch master cylinder at the same time, you will need to remove that to get the brake master cylinder off.

And while stuck in the drivers footwell take a look at the heater valve for any signs of leakage or lack of movement.
