I have amended the advert and changed the wording "restored to a high standard" to refurbished as this probably best describes what the car is undergoing.
Personally I do not see the car as a joke as it will be a very nice example when finished - obviously not the best - but a very nice one nevertheless.
I've seen the pictures of Les's Lido being restored and I have to say that has to be as good as it gets in terms of quality - but prohibitive for my budget for this particular car.
CRS are a reputable company locally who have painted a few of my classic cars - some completely stripped and some not.
I am not in any way trying to hide anything in my advert - it's factual and honest - and I've included the paint booth picture to show the work in progress.
As for the cars value - it's worth what someone is prepared to pay and a guide price is merely a starting point for negotiation.
My X1/9 was in very good condition to start off with and showed very few of the usual horrors - apart from the nose area behind the bumper which has been replaced using panels from Radford and supplied by the extremely helpful Claire at Eurosport.
Everyone I have met or spoken to throughout my ownership of the car has been great and the club has been invaluable.
I am only advertising the car to raise funds for the ongoing restoration of my VW Splitscreen.
If the X1/9 does not sell - then I will keep it and enjoy it.
Thanks for your comments.

Thanks for coming on and adding your comments - it's good to see that you're taking an interest in the refurbishment of the car.
I think it'll look great when it's finished, even if there are areas that we might have done differently. Each to their own though.
I hope it sells ... but at the same time I hope it doesn't - you'll only miss it when it's gone
Chris

At the end of the day any X1/9 being restored, rebuilt, refurbished or however you look at it is keeping it on the road, instead of wasting away to end up as scrap and we should all be grateful for this.

I'm not a dodgy dealer trying to make a quick buck here - honest!
But I am a cheque book restorer who relies on the services of professionals and pays top "down South" rates for the privilege.
It's obvious that many of you guys are either in the trade or have a good knowledge of maintenence.
I do not and work to a sensible budget. It stands to reason that I would not spend 2-3 grand on a bare metal respray for a car I did not intend to keep - and one that is constantly (annoyingly) undervalued at this present time.
I briefly owned a brand new red and black VS in the '80s but had to give it up as buying a house meant I couldn't afford the finance and insurance. I have loved X1/9's ever since.
I came across my car by chance and had to have it. Since buying it I have travelled the country picking up parts for it - red leather interior, wheels etc etc
The side mouldings and screens were left on the car and masked - their choice - not at my request. I imagine down to man hours and money.
So the sides will not be colour coded. They struggled to remove the front plastic piece without breaking it so it will be retextured in black. Bumpers are tungsten with the black plastic caps replaced.
The only reason my car is Aston Martin Tungsten is because it sneaked in as the next job after an Aston had gone through. And I thought - why not! Probably the closest I'll ever get.
CRS are one of the few facilities that paint articulated lorries and trailers and they do this for many of the top motor racing teams - they are situated right next door to Prodrive.
The anthracite OZ alloys and new Pirellis went on this afternoon and I have to say it looks fantastic. Possibly so good that I will keep it for the Summer and beyond!!
And if I like it that much - I might even book it in to have the side mouldings removed and painted underneath.
All the best guys,
Terry.

Too true about being undervalued, when is the classic world going to wake up? I've had enough of magazines full of MG's and stags.. I just don't buy them anymore!
Still confused here.
The door mouldings take literally 2 minutes to remove, 1 screw and they slide off. Mirrors take 5 minutes a side to remove or 10 minutes each to mask. Same with the front bumper "lip" a few 8mm nuts and the whole thing comes off. Painting a car with lots of obstacles is far more difficult, and time consuming, really can't understand why a company that is obviously proffessional, would give themselves this much more work, and leave vulnerable parts unpainted?
Understand the screen though!

Many thanks for coming on and explaining your refurbishment. I hope i didnt affend you and I truly apologise to you if I did.
I share your frustration of the values on these cars which I agree leaves a low budget for repairs and rolling restoration. I absolutely applaud you for what you have done to keep another X1/9 alive and i now see that your intensions are genuine.
I guess im with Tiff in terms of what the photograph imp;lies and am also surprised that the paint shop left so much of the trim in place. But again they will be working to a price that is affordable for you, and it is what it is.
My Lido is just a different proposition to yours having had a larger £ budget to get the job done. Im sure if you have a Vw you know what level of cash owners invest in their projects.
I do beleive that the price you are asking is a realistic price for a good solid example.
For me anyhow for what its worth I think your ebay add will benefit from the level of detail that you have provided us on this forum. Sometimes a lack of detail raises lots of questions and then the scepticsm sets in, especially with 20 year old x1/9s.
All my very best to you and I hope you do decide to keep the car and remain a member of the club.
Warm Regards
Les

I have to admit to HATING black wheels (it's a personal thing) but if I squint and cover them up the rest of the car looks GREAT !
Man, those headlights are bright
