If you were having your car resprayed, surely you'd take all the trim off first ? The car in this advert still has the front plastic trim above the bumper attached in the spray booth  How hard would it be to undo the 6 or so nuts that hold it on ?

(sorry if this is your car - the opinions expressed here are my own and do not represent the views of others etc etc !!)

Well I thought it was just me that thought that. Clearly not.
As I'm currently looking for a car, it makes me wonder how many other compromises have been made.

I thought that too, looks like the door strips are still fitted too. These are pretty flexable, so need a plastic primer before paint, if he wanted them body colour. Also every X1/9 I've had with door strips had rust underneath... I'm waiting for the promised extra pics to see whats been done.

This car advertised is not what I would describe as 'Restored' The paint job is a joke !!!!!

Unfortunetely to do a full restoration is cost prohibited unless you are competent to do the work yourself which would still entail many hours work has many member of this club have done and are still doing.

In this case the fact that all the trim and glass has been left in place which in itself can hide a multitude of hidden rust etc gives me zero confidence in the quality of any panel repairs. lets face it the paint job is merely the cherry on the cake the real work lies in removing fixtures even panels to appraise and repair as neccessary.

Im afraid offering this type of 'Restored' car for sale is very very risky from a buyers perspective.

Now that is more like it. Nice job Tiff.

What I always find bizare about the x1/9 scene is that good solid cars attract low prices while parts are very much in demand and comand high prices vs complete cars. (I do speak from experience on this) Why is this? Im not bitter and twisted honest !!

LOL Les, I was being ironic,or sarcastic..I can never remember!

Anyway, mine was a quick "blowover", and yes, there is some rust coming back through,(Used all winter though) and some dodgy parts in the paint, but i'll attend to those as an when I get round to it, but If I'd paid a bodyshop to paint my car, in an Aston martin colour, and reckoned it was worth 3.5K I'd expect far more than a mask up and blowover.

Know what you mean about some of the prices if you keep an eye on Ebay..and yet you still see cars for the low hundreds. lets hope they all don't get broken up.

I've been going through one of my "wobbles" lately. Thinking of gathering up all my stuff and letting it all go, and just concentrating on my bike.I don't seem to have any free time now,, and seeing my X bubbling up, and covered in grime is painful,as well as the Lancia which needs some TLC along with the clutter in my garage and attic.. I have been driving an Elise the past few days, and have thought just to go sports car less for a few years, then get one of these,or find a really nice 1300 for occaisional use. Every night I seem to lie awake thinking aff all the little jobs I need to do, and parts to replace.

I go through this every now and again.. all the guys at work have a good laugh at me when I come in half asleep proclaiming I'm buying a Toyota Corolla!

Hey Tiff at least your not saying your car is 'Restored' cos its had its blow over when in essence thats what the ebay add one appears to have had. Id certainly like to see some further pics.

Maybe im going through that mid life thing but ive just taken delivery of a 87 Rd 125lc which has been fully rebuilt. passed my bike test in 84 and havent been on a bike since i sold my 350Lc power valve in the early nineties. So at 43 I think I will have a dabble with this Lc and see if I want to move up. My friends say to me "dont you like any thing thats new" well of course yes and of course no..... carnt explain it !!!!

Some evenings I go in the garage and just marvel at the Lido's beauty and conclude that im lucky to be its keeper knowing that it really has had a restoration that could see her through the next twenty or so years. :D

Tiff, I hope you don't sell Bjork after all that work you (and I!) put into her - you know you'll only regret it afterwards! :D

Les - just out of interest how much did your restoration cost, PM me if it is too painful to announce on the public forum! :P

Lol Jim unfortunetely you have to discount labour costs as a means to an end. I wanted to get yap sorted by a Virgos std and actually have the car usable in the summer months. I have done a 1300 resto myself back in the 80s but the modern pressures of career kids etc mean id never get it finished mysef hence then you have to be prepared to pay the price. No regrets only I get frustrated with the small minded perceptions that still persist.

Les, they are bike plates, it really winds me up that the standard UK plates are "just" too big to fit in the space on the back on a 1500. Got the Italian flag put in them, and stuck an Abarth sticker on to fill the space!

I'd Love to see your Elsie, brings back memories of trying to pop wheelies outside the chippe to impress the "chicks". I started off on an RD50 when I was 16... then on to a DT125R,then cars. Got my bike licence a few years ago, and never looked back. I wish I'd never had been away from them. The RF will pull 90 in 2nd gear though, so I'm gonna have to watch my licence, its just too easy!

My first bike was a Honda ss50 yes with pedals then Yamaha DT 100, Kawasakie KE 100 passed my test on a brand new 84 Rd125lc then got the 350lc. Gave it all up for four wheels after a good friend of mine ran head on into a skip on a FS1e 50. He survived but brain damaged. I lost the excitment after that. The Lc ive picked up has been well sorted and is just a bit of a re inroduction for me.
