Evening lads and lassies, thought I should say hello as I've finally got round to joining the owner's club after 2 years of exxy ownership! I have frequented the XWeb discussion forum for a while so a few may recognise me from there.

I’m 20, stay in Glasgow and when I'm not tinkering in the garage I study mechanical engineering at the university: yes, I'm a jobless student layabout. :P
My better half is far more stylish than me; she is two years younger but obviously had a hard life. She demands my time most weekends, spends all my money and typically needs lots of attention, especially around the wheelarches. :D

Apart from the usual welding and bodywork, I have been busy with a few modifications:

4x Kawasaki ZX6R carbs with custom manifold, linkage & ZX6R fuel pump.
'Megajolt' distributerless ignition, rev limit & shift lights. 3D mappable with laptop.
Pagid fast road brake pads with Goodridge SS flexi hoses.
1300 engine cover & side grilles.
Debumpered front and rear with 1300 bumpers, grille and lights waiting to be mounted... anyone got a 1300 spoiler they need rid of?!

I've also got some Compomotive TS split rims but haven’t quite decided if they would spoil the look, I know some exxy owners are quite sensitive about wheel size!

Here's a few pics:
Before

That’s about it for now, it’s depressing when I realise the un modified X went into my garage 14 months ago for a 'winter service'

I hope to make it to the club outing in Edinburgh next month to meet some fellow X heads, the car wont be on the road so let me know if you have an empty passenger seat.. :P

Kind Regards,
Iain

Welcome Iain. Your girl looked pretty tidy before you wined & dined her! Great pics too, what sort of performance are you getting out of her?

Cheers,

Nige

Nige,

I expect a few extra horses from the new carbs and such but I really just wanted driveablity and something different (no offence to the DCNF guys :P ) The nasty old Weber carb and distributer were causing problems so I ripped them out. Bike carbs were £10 via Ebay and the ignition system is mostly made up from scrapyard bits!

The engine is soo smooth now and starts on the button, I could listen to those carbs purr all day :)

Regards,
Iain

Tiff, good to hear from you again. There hasnt been much engine related progress since we last spoke, I've just been ploughing through the bodywork (with an angle grinder mostly :( )Are you going to the meet in Edinburgh next month?

I may well make the Edinburgh meet, been working on my car quite a bit recently,it should be getting MOT,d next week sometime.Few small jobs still to do,then I will get round to the bodywork.I'd really like to give the car a full respray, but don't have my own premises to do it,so may well have to pay someone else to do it!!

P.S Was it Bogg bros who did your manifold? I was out in an Astra redtop a few days ago with ZX9R carbs and it was awesome...was a Bogg manifold, and was top quality.

Yes the manifold was made by Bogg Bros, they used the original manifold flanges and fabricated aluminium tubes to mount the carbs, top quality job! They also fitted some bigger jets to the carbs, 160 I think. The carbs run great (not had it on the road yet) but will need some rolling road tweeking at some point. The price of bike carbs has gone through the roof on ebay now due to people using them in cars, glad I went for it when I did! The next project will be to fit some Kawasaki ZX636 throttle bodies onto my manifold and go EFI :D

The modifications are just a distraction from horrid bodywork but I've run out of £££ now so its time to break out the filler and get sanding...

Let me know if you find a decent spray shop, I will be on the hunt soon too :)
The VS looks very smart, are they lancia wheels?

Regards,
Iain

Hello Iain - nice to see another Glasgow exxy - surely there can't be too many out there now that aren't in the Club. Hope to meet you on the run on the 18th March out to East Fortune.

Tiff - the new car is looking well. I'm sure you're itching to get it going.

Andy, where about are you in Glasgow? In the last 2 years I have seen 2 GFs - one mica red and one blue, both in the west end. An Uno turboed Eurosport in Milngavie and a light blue bumperless 1500 in Govan.

Is your X on the road?

Regards,
Iain

IainB,

Mine is a light blue 1500 1980 (but with bumpers). I did own a mica blue SE for about eight years and was a daily driver, before it got too bad with rust to get through an MoT. I very infrequently get over to the west-end so unlikley to have been me, but if it was very rusty looking it might have been me in my old one. I stay in the southside suburbs, and now that I commute in by train, my car stays warm and dry in a garage waiting for weekend jaunts. Having said that I did bring it in today.

The Uno Turbed one is probably Picollo's who was in the process of selling it last summer.

Tiff said that there is a guy at a tyre place in the east end who has a light blue one like mine - not sure if it has bumpers or not.

The other light blue one (Eoin) is completely standard, apart from Mirafiori steel wheels..

And yest they are Lancia wheels, off a Beta Coupe, with 185/55/14's.. I was never a fan of bigger wheels, but haven't had it out on the road yet with them,so I'll see how it goes!

I met 'Picollo' to buy some uno turbo brake calipers a while back and saw his eurosport, she was stunning. Shame he had to sell.

I have also met Paul Santoni briefly when I saw his blue GF, not sure if this is the same one I have seen in the west end.

Apparently the owner of the Italian restaurant on Gt Western Road owns an X1/9, this is also where I have seen the mica red X a few times... I also remember eating there a long time ago and seeing an X poster on the wall! I didnt know what it was at the time...

Hopefully I'l meet you all soon so I can put cars to faces. Driving the X around in Glasgow last year was an amusing experience; I had kids telling me I had a 'cute car', a guy complimenting me on my 'TR7' and some hot girl asking me if I had built it myself?! The joys of X ownership..

Iain

Giuliano was the owner of the mica red exy and part owner of Trattoria Trevi. He now no longer owns either unfortunately. The poster on the wall came from a trip to Bertone. His brother had the restaurant plastered with motorcyle photos so I gave Giuliano the exy poster to balance things up. If you looked closely, you may have noticed some illustrations of Nuccio Bertone, Lancia Strato's etc which came from one of my trips to Automotoretro a number of years ago.

Look forward to seeing you next month. I might have a spare seat but I will let you know nearer the time. I might be going up in convoy with some of the others so watch this space.
