Well done that man.......your enthusiasm knows no bounds and we're glad to have you as a member of the club Tiff.

Now, as for Dallara...............there can only be ONE, or as the latest updates from Italy suggest......20 8 1300's and 12 1600's that were DONE or DALLARA'D by Dallara.

There is supposed to be one in the U.K., a 1300CC.........anyone know who owns it? The rest are REPLICA's OR copies if that means anything different. A great body needs a great heart :D

Pietro Antonini's car in Lozzolo. I first saw this one in 1994 when it was tucked away under some cardboard boxes in a fabric factory. This car during the 80's was virtually unbeaten in it's class when racing. Pietro plans to restore it to full racing capability and will hill climb the car next year. This is the REAL DEAL.......a car which is truly one of the forgotten myths which took scalps by the bucket load.

This is a very important number if you collect Dallaras. What number is yours and when was in built? 1978 perhaps?

All these different versions and their merits and de-merits. I'm confused! My first adventure was in a yellow, regular 1300 in the USA in 1976: it looked fabulous; the mid-engine roar in my ear was wonderful; I loved the simple elegance of the interior; the idea for stowing the roof was fantastic; and I thought the matching luggage bags were really cute! Thus, I wanted one. I was so-ooo excited when I first saw one in the UK in late 1976 (or maybe early '77). But the years went by....until finally I bought my first Finale, my one and only Gina, from a club member, December 04.

Found this link via Google:

www.laursen-online.dk/x1-9/gallery-uk/index.html

...which I don't *think* is on the club's Links page. It tells neophytes like me something about various models & mods, Abarth's, Dallara's etc. etc. (However, it says the GF was fitted with Aircon as standard! In this weather, I wish. Or maybe I just haven't found the button....)

One of these fine days I will own a perfect 1300 with all the original features, and completely recapture my magic summer of '76. I think it's really impressive what other folk manage to do, to push the X1/9 envelope both mechanically and aesthetically but, for me, Nirvana would be an immaculate, mechanically perfect, not-a-speck-of-rust, classic, standard 1300. And I'd pick it up for about a grand. (Yes, I may dream on...)

To be discussed further, no doubt, at the Highland Weekend.....

Nice link there Richard and as for that 1300 :D I'm sort of on my way! However, the series 1's with their black leather interiors were simple and true to form. I saw a white one for sale a couple of years ago at Automotoretro in Torino and it was just perfect......Tiff would have loved it in white :D

When you go to Italy, you understand more about what the X1/9 stands for. It's the back street garages where you find the sleeping race cars and mechanics who lovingly work on these machines in dusty, hot surroundings. It's the characters that you meat and the friendships that are made which make owning the car so special. :D

Looking forward to the Highland adventure, can't wait for another episode in the X1/9 story.

More great pics :) How is the cylinderhead arranged. It looks like a twin cam with plugs in the centre but there is only one cam pully. The throttle mech looks like a sliding venturi. Are those injector pipes plastic! I would love to see one in the flesh. 8) 8)

Hi Graham, I just drive em so don't ask me complicated questions like that  I have some superb video footage that I may just bring up to the Highland weekend but then, I bet Ian would rather watch the bike gp than nice images of a Dallara going round a track. Someone asked me if I had footage of road racing once and I do, just don't know where the video is. In the flesh Graham there is nothing like a Dallara........maybe just an Abarth perhaps :P

The exhaust cam will probably be chain driven off the inlet cam at the other end like a 16v VW engine. That injection system is intriguing though!! :?

The mechanical injection system reminds me of the Lucus system. This was fitted to Triumph 2500PIs and at least one Maserati but I can't remember which

It's amazing watching pure fuel being pumped into the funnels. Have it on film, close up just in case somebody needed to copy one day. Also took pics of the underside and suspension. All high tech :-)
