Cameron does have a valid point here although perhaps an extreme way to make it
I would disagree with his point that they are not loved. True they are not as popular as other makes and not fetching the same prices, however, there appear to a lot of these cars stored in garages etc that keep coming out of the woodwork. if people didn't love them they would have been thrown away rather than been stored. At the NEC last weekend, I spoke to a number of people who had them stored.
Regarding the Classic car motoring press; yes they do focus on MX5s, MGs, Ford, Jags etc etc. From chatting to the guys at Classic & Sports Car last year, while they love the X1/9 and appreciate what it's about, putting it on the front cover of the mag wont sell copies. Stick a Jag on the front and it flies off the shelves.
Same with the NEC Classic Car Show. We have a small stand, however, there will be 3 MG clubs there, four Escort clubs etc etc. Unfortunately that doesn't give a good cross section of cars, but it does reflect where most peoples interest lie.
The X1/9 is a niche car with limited appeal, but there are an awful lot of people who really do appreciate what they're about.

I think you have a point. There loads of articles on Ford's, Jags and the like but I rarely see an X in mags.
Maybe if some one has done a restored with loads of before and after photos they could send that to a mag and word could spread.
I personally have been I to the VW Splitscreen scene for a while and of course there's a huge following for VWs.
I've only just started my journey in the x19's and I'm loving these little cars, and I've only had the top off twice.
Much under rated cars and I can't wait for the summer.

Seeing this thread reminds me that I really did trade in my X for a Fiesta. It was 1989 and I part ex'd my green 1300 for a Mk2 1.4 Ghia. It was the year my eldest son was born and the baby seat just wouldn't fit! I've got over it now though and had 5 more since (X1/9's not kids)

At least you rectified your error of buying a Fiesta.
I managed to get both a rear facing and forward facing baby seat to fit in my X1/9 (obviously not at the same time!) It worked OK, but what was more important was getting my daughter to appreciate the X1/9 from a very young age. She is 10 now and absolutely loves the car so I cant possibly get rid of it as I wouldn't want to upset here!!!
