Traded it in under a scrappage scheme today for a ford fiesta

Why?

Blimey, I’d have been keen to buy it rather than you scrap it.

I doubt that very much, five days is hardly enough time to give anyone chance is it.

I was making a point our cars are not worth as much we think they are, whenever one comes on for this amount of money the first reaction is "that is quite a lot", but when compared to any pile of unimaginative tin that has got a Ford badge on it our cars are a bargain even Vauxhall Nova SR would get a greater market reaction than any x1/9. I just get frustrated with the classic car movement that gets all in a tizzy with cars that were just average run of the mill stuff back in the day.

Can I ask how much you got for the trade in / scrapage scheme ?

As it happens I sort of agree with you.
I’ve been looking for another X1/9 for a while now but I have been quoted quite simply some ridiculous prices.
Just because one sold at auction for £17,000 a few years ago doesn’t mean they are all worth that amount.
In fact only yesterday a GF popped up with an asking price on £15,000.
So in reality most sellers DO price their cars too high and not realistically especially if they look at recent sales of the same model, not just a one off sale at an auction house.
Unlike Jason, I actually don’t wish to know how much you got for scrappage as it will probably upset me since I’ve been looking for a VS for quite a while now.

It is still for sale interested?. Scrapping an x1/9 is a criminal offence i was just trying a to get a reaction because the classic movement dismays me at times because we have another summer with no mention of x1/9's in any of the magazines but we get the endless mx5 buyer guides every year because apparently that is the only enjoyable car for when the sun shines. It dismays me when we see hum drum cars back in the day getting far more recognition i.e. anything by Ford.
