Rare X1/9 parts was created by bigdry
As a returning x1/9 owner and someone who in a past life had 2 cars worth of spares that all eventually ended up in a skip...(i know, i know  ) I wonder whats rare nowdays, difficult to source and worth keeping an eye out for? Are the windscreens rare? for instance. And how about the stainless trim around the windscreen? etc etc
thx

Sorry - it think it just seemed like a big, open-ended question. I haven't got a week to note down all the rare stuff !

The one thing that springs to mind is the rear A-arms - I think they're hard to find, or very expensive if you do find them. There's a guide somewhere to a diy repair, but it means removing the ball joint and bolting a new one in place, which might be beyond the ability of many (?).

He, Heh, thats cool. Seriously, it does seem that most things are available nowdays (with companies such as eurosport etc). Maybe you could list what is really rare then :)

I think the issue with the rear ball joints is the cost - there is a German seller on ebay listing a pair at nearly £300!

But that's actually not a bad price, compared to the Monte Hospital, where they are £215 each

They were unique to the X1/9 and Lancia Montecalro, and are only reproduced in small quantities, hence the cost.

The originals are riveted in and require drilling out. The replacement bolts in.

Rachel, I had thought about remaking the entire "A" arm in tubular steel, and making it so an easily avaliable balljoint could be used. Then the only concern would be the balljoint pin diameter . Once one was made in a jig, it would be easy to produce a small run of them. Replacing balljoints is a horrible job, as the rivets are tapered, and the arms are also tack welded but mostly held together by the rivets. I ruined 2 of them trying to get the old joints out.
