but i too shut the door by pushing it shut using the window it seems to work well or you can do a proper job like tiff advices,or just lower the window a few mm
In teh meantime, I think I'll lower the windows a smidge for now. Then in Summer I'll get the door cards off and see what's what with the innards. I'll take some photos as I go and post them here.

Then just lower or higher the window until you can see the bump stop through the hole.
That said closing with the hand on glass (I lubed the roof gutter strip with silicone spray as well) is the only way as I found with all three of my previous exxies that if you lowered the window enough not to catch the roof strip then there would be a lot of wind noise and a draught.

You can spend a bit of time getting the roof sitting nice by using thin shims etc under the roof hooks and catches, adjusting the door height etc. Takes a good while, but well worth it in my opinion. Most of the roof seals now are old, and have been damaged by the window catching on them. You also may notice that on some cars the roof sits too low and rubs the paint off the top of the "B" pillars. Roofs aren't all the same- I had a few, and always found some were much better fitting than others.
Some cars have horrible wind noise, some have none, some doors close first go with a light push, and some need to be slammed 2 or 3 times- it is all curable, but very fiddly and pretty frustrating to get right, but worth it if you do a lot of miles with the roof on. Fastest cure is get the roof off! but that means getting the heater working 100% at this time of year, which can also be a fiddly and frustrating process....
I suppose the ideal would be the same sort of set up you get on Mercedes coupe's etc, where the glass drops a cm or so when the door handle is pulled- and raises when the door is closed.... now that WOULD be a lot of work!

Yesterday I sorted it out by lowering the windows a smidge. I noticed that this also allows the back edge of the window to make proper contact with the seal around the door opening. And that must surely definitely lower the road noise I heard on the A12 trip home.
The electric window action is quite aggressive (my last X had manual windows). It proved to be a bit tricky to lower the windows the 5mm or so needed. Instead I had to lower them quite a bit more and then raise them and stop before I got to the top. Bit of trial and error and it's sorted for now.
Heater definitely works well on this X
Tif - you're right about the doors. One definitely shuts more easily than the other.
So I think I'm happy on this for now and will wait until Spring to try and tweak the roof/doors into more 'foolproof' operation.
