No longer X-less! (Thanks Pete)

Well, thanks to many Club members for advice, tips and buying advice, I now have an X.

It's D515RPU - which you all know as Pete's car, of course. (His head's been turned by the supercharged green one.)

So at 2:30am this morning (after a nightmare of a journey on the back of a rather unreliable truck) we rolled up at Manalishi Towers. I drove the last 60 miles or so, and aside from a few mishaps with my trainers finding the accelerator instead of the brake :oops: it all went pretty well.

Plan is to drive her this Summer, reacquaint myself with the whole X experience and then take stock at MOT time. There are a few areas that definitely need some investigation, but Pete's got the mechanical side working a treat.

Big Q is does it merit remedial work and a quality respray? Possibly a Lido replica treatment? And maybe some engine mods for the year after.

Will start searching the forum here for answers to some of my immediate Qs, and try not to pester you all with FAQs.

Eagle-eyed viewers will spot that I need to work out how to get the doors to close properly against the roof rubber strips!

And here's the bit that I'll be keen to solve later this year - bubbling on the rear 'shoulders' (for want of a better word):

Congratulations on acquiring an excellent Xie. I know Pete has looked after it very well - improving and upgrading on an on going basis.

Girlfriend has nicknamed it Droopy (from the reg plate). Not sure I like that - wasn't it a stupid cartoon dog? May have to nip that in the bud by getting a different plate - one with 1 or 2 numbers so it will look better in the square format of the 1300 rear plate.

Anyone think of something suitable or clever in a D or earlier prefix?

Easy tip on getting the windows to close past the roof seal... rather than push the door closed via the door handle / lock, push the door closed with your hand on the window about 3/4 of the way up. This bends the glass, misses the top trim and closes the door nicely. works for me....

Just be a bit careful 'till you get the hang of it but the door glass is quite tough....

got any pics of the interior???

Just whip off the door trim and move the cam that is the top limit for the window, a few mm can make all the difference, and saves ripping the seals.

Excellent - thanks for the tip. As usual there's an official and unofficial way.

ummm didn't know the official way. I'll make some adjustments on my Silver exxy... to get it right.

I thought the cam was for the lower adjustment but could never work out why it didn't do anything!

Seems like a common problem!

I'm trying to find a pic of the inside of a door, on a later car. I'm sure there is a plastic cam which you adjust to set the top height. In the You Tube vid there is a rubber capped bolt, which I guess could be exchanged for a longer rubber capped bolt!

I need to get another X1/9, I'm forgetting stuff!

Electric Windows
My Exxy has got electric windows which insist of raising too high and threatening to commit suicide on the roof. I've noted that the little rubber stoppers are damaged and intend to try and replace them from my now spare car. I want to know if these rubbers will really stop the windows against the force of the motor or is it possible to prevent the window rising too far. Please help - I remember just how difficult it was replacing the driver's door in my last car. You need to remove the interior door panel and wind down the window a bit. On the metal rail which holds the glass at the bottom of the window, you will find a cam-shaped plastic piece which stops the window going up too far. You can turn this cam to adjust how far up the window goes. Unfortunately full adjustment on mine was not enough, so I built it up using card and Araldite

The stop adjustment on some models is just a screwed rubber stopper with lock nut, similar to the headlight pod close stops. Again it's on the lower window rail. The plastic end cap on the top of the window channel doesn't do anything apart from giving a clue to how far the window should go up. "

hi barry i hope you enjoy the x1/9 as much as i did,i only ever had the roof on for the mot but i too shut the door by pushing it shut using the window it seems to work well or you can do a proper job like tiff advices,or just lower the window a few mm
