It was a few years ago and just after Paul Marrah sold me a gearbox to replace the one that ground to a halt on the A406... and just before the Ireland trip that year... I took Geoff Hurley to Rockingham Raceway in the X for a photoshoot for some magazine (one of the Classics mags but can't remember which one)... we all had to stand under the starting gantry and wave to the cameraman up on the gantry and it was this photo of the crowd and me in a stripey rugby shirt which prompted JimX1/9 to mention "Where's Wally" when he saw the photo.... he announced this at the race track visit in Ireland... Geoff was there too, so that should narrow down the years a bit for anyone who wants to track it down but I don't have the magazine or the photo (mercifully).

Chris, you're doing a fantastic job!! The link works now, and I see an article from Car magazine from 1982 that goes to the heart of my love of x1/9's! I was an impressionable 17 year old... I had that magazine but it took me another 17 years to realize that such a wonderful car was within my reach.

I can't open the pdf file though, it says 'file damaged...' I want to read it again!!

Thanks Martin - I'll PM you about that article (sorry Rob !).

I've just tried the CAR magazine link (I assume you mean June '82 ?) and it works ok for me. Try again, and if it doesn't work I'll email you the pdf.

Chris

It was the May 1982 article I was refering to, it would have come out in April just after my 17th birthday... whilst I was struggling with the gearbox of my mum's 1976 yellow with black vinyl seats 127 3 door - reverse was only available via a swift left-right-back of the gearlever... even with only 903cc that Fiat was fun too!

Chris

Excellent collection of articles.

In the 80s i used to collect 'Sports Car Monthly' the predesesor to 'Performance Tuning'. In them there was extensive coverage of the x19 and coverage of the garage the 'X19 Centre' in slough.

Alas i dont know what happened to my collection.

Does anyone have them? Ive never seen any on e-bay either.

Would be great to add them to Chris's library !!

Maybe we should play the drinking game?
when you see a pic of Yap in a mag you have to take a drink?

Similar to the drink with Dallas game from the eighties!

1980 green with Lancia Delta Turbo engine
