Just wondering if anyone desires to drive John O Groats to Lands End at some point in November. It must of course be in an X1/9.
Having never done the northern parts of Scotland and having a new motorsport crackers female navigator this seems like a good idea (could hardly be worse than our Le Mans Trip)
A chum of mine did this in a Moggie last year so his road book should be available to guide us on some more interesting roads.
There is no point to this trip, other than saying I've done it and because of that I won't be doing too much night driving, comfy pubs with nice beer is a must. I reckon on it taking four days to just under a week although the Moggie managed 13 hrs 50 mins!
Let me know if your interested

Go mad get sponsored and do it for Children in Need... make it worth the while and maybe even a bit of publicity for the Club to boot.

If it entails following someone "who knows the way"... driving my X1/9... and stopping over in some pubs...
I think I might just be interested...
Never done the Lands End - John O'Groats trip... and it is one that should probably be done at some point...
If you decide to do it... let me know... and I'll join you.
(Been out for a good blast in the Exxy tonight... and it was running "sweet"... so that might be part of the reason for my confidence...

Although, if I had the choice, it would probably be one of the first two in the month... (i.e. weeks commencing the 5th and 12th...)
That's if I was asked... obviously. Otherwise, I'll just "go with the flow"...

But here it is in the main for the rest of you.
Who wants to come now?
Looking at a couple of other routes I reckon on basically making the route up myself.
So I've started thinking of places I want to go barring in mind we can't stop anywhere long. However as it will basically be a round trip we get more options.
List so far is:
North York Moors (nice pub at Danby)
Kielder Forest
Night in Edinburgh
Night in or near John O Groats
Run alongside Loch Ness (watchin out for monsters)
Glen Coe
Hard down past Glasgow and into Lakes
Night in lakes
Perhaps Clip Yorkshire dales
Into North Wales(snowdonia)
Night in Wales (lampter)
Over Black Mountains (a la Top Gear)
Blat M5 to North Devon
Exmoor
Night in Lands End
Dartmoor
New Forest
Night in Cambridge.
You may have spotted several 70's rally venues but that should keep the roads interesting!
I haven't worked the mileages out - overnight at the john may have to move. I'm not going to get too worried about cutting the route if necessary. For me this is, see Scotland and go home the long way round.

Takes in some excellent roads... and the scenery should be pretty special too...
Going to make a list of the bit to do to the car over the summer (mostly minor stuff)... so that the trip is not shortened unexpectedly...

You need to try it. Friday evenings western side at about 18:00 ask for a sprinkleing of rain ...the odd one or two Polish Lorries parked up having tea (vodka)on the hard shoulder, better still blue flashing lights on the oppersit carrigeway no need to slow down just ram the driver in front who is rubber necking on his mobile in the fast lane.

I do it regular. I'm more scared by the lorries in the outside lane reading the paper at 5 MPH!
Anyway
Dear Scottish chums.
As a southern softie going abroad! Whats the likelyhood of snow on the roads of the Higlands in early November? Do I need to Dib Dib Dib and Dob Dob Dob and buy some tyres with a bit of grip as well as all the other standard boy scout preparations?
