How to bleed cooling system ? was created by Roger Tye
Hello,
I just replaced the cooling and heater pipes under the car.
Ready to add coolant but expected to find a bleed valve on the radiator----should there be one ? if so where ?
What is best practice for re filling the system ?
Thank You

Raise the front of the car to a point where the top of the radiator is higher than any other part of the cooling circuit, including the water thermostat on the carburetor.
The bleed screw is down a hole top left of radiator, you need a suitable allen key.
Mine had no washer, I fitted a fibre washer.
Once you find the bleed screw loosen it a turn and fill up the system until coolant dribbles out. Re tighten the screw.
Take the car for a short run, get it warm and the water circulating.
Do the procedure again.
You will know it is fixed when the temperature is correct and stable, no periodic fluctuations which are air bubbles in the system.
A steel expansion tank, new hoses from the tank and a secondary bleed valve in the engine bay are good ideas.
I have a youtube channel, David Moult "the real david moult" if you are feeling brave you can find tips there.

The heater circuit is always difficult to bleed.
I tend to undo the inlet hose from the engine and fill the circuit up from there to try and purge air out. Then connect the hose back up again.
