Fuel Gauge

Got a dead sender or gauge on my 1500 and juist checking gauge first and notice if I connect 12v across the gauge it reads 0 but if I ground the sender contact it reads full.
Does anyone know if that sounds right, ie. does the sender ground out on full and introduce resistance as tanks empties?
If so I'm guessing my sender has died.
Thanks.

The sender resistance I measured as
Full <4 ohm
1/2 144 to 152 ohm
Low fuel warning 226 to 240 ohm
Empty 297 to 314 ohm
so grounding the sender will equal a short to ground = full tank
Hope this helps

Hi Alan,
Thanks for the information - that's really helpful. That confirms the sender is duff so I'll take it out and give it the once over and rewind the resistance wire which I'm guessing has broke.

Eurosport did have them (currently shows out of stock) for just less than £70.
That is the one I did these resistance readings from.
The trick is going to be finding the correct resistance wire, they are not all the same composition or wire gauge
but don't know a lot about resistance wire. Guess you could try Rapid online, Farnell or RS components....
