Splitting Gearbox - Help needed

Having read about gerarbox rebuilds on the forum I thought I'd be brave it and attempt a rebuild of my 1500 as it has a sticky clutch arm and iffy 5th gear.

I got a second hand box I was going to use as a reference and which I am taking apart before I tackle the one in the car - partly for practice and partly see what I can cannibalise.

I've manage to get the fifth gear components off the two shafts from the end of the case, removed all the relevant nuts etc.. (including three in bell housing) but for the life of me I can't seem to get the main case apart from the bell housing. It moves up about 0.5 cm but seems to be snagging on the differential. Am I missing something?

I have taken out detent springs and ball bearings are moved away from selector rods (but not removed as I can't seem to get them to drop out) so I can't see anything daft I haven't removed - any help would be appreciated.

Have taken the stub shafts out first as advised here: www.seattlex19.org/data/5s101/5sp101.html#Disassembly

Thanks - that did the trick- just felt like they didn't want to let go.
