Swapping the carburettor

My car has covered a high mileage so I will be on a crusade to swap and update parts as I go along. My main issue is poor starting which could of course be many things. I'm going to swap the carburetor for a reconditioned one. Is this something that is easy enough to do? Also, is it worth changing any other parts at the same time ? I'm in Essex and looking for a recommendation for a "Hometune" type of facility. I found a good one but he only works Monday-Friday and sadly I'm still at working during the week!

Thanks in advance,

Gary

Swapping is pretty straight forward but I had it rebuilt by a local carburettor specialist with the rebuild kit. You then know you have a good clean carburettor and it should be less expensive. Some people say clean it yourself, I tried that, it ran worse than ever and then I took it to a specialist. Save time, money and agrevation. Starting could be a dirty carburettor or the usual, plugs, leads, points, fuel pump. Mine was awful to start when I got it but now starts first time after choke, mine is manual, and three prods on the accelerator pedal if cold.
I recommend an electric fuel pump if you don't have one, they ensure immediate starting and help with hot starting issues by pumping cool fuel through the carburettor on a hot start if you are patient.
You have a great car, ten year old boys know what is cool and one went "phwoarr!" at mine the other day,.
