Has anybody ever heard of anyone fitting the Honda i-VTEC engine to an X1/9 ? It's a common upgrade to the Elise but the X1/9 is a much nicer home to put one in. 232bhp and a far better gearbox than any Fiat alternative.
Honda conversions seem to have been a reasonably popular conversion over in the USA, have a search on the Xweb forum. Personally I doubt if it is worth the consirable work involved in the conversion and also you remove one of the fundamental things that makes a car - the engine and gearbox. To control 230hp you would also need plenty of expensive work on the brakes and suspension. A well tuned sohc engine putting out 110-20hp would make a very lively car.
