Hot Running was created by Patrick Kenny
Just finished restoring 1974 Radbourne conversion and on it's maiden run it conked out after a couple of miles. It's had a new fuel pump and carb has been cleaned but problem persists. Car starts when warm but won't rev. Any ideas?

Blocked jets in the carb would be my guess. By the subject of blocked running, do you also mean the car is running too warm?

Thanks for your reply - I cleaned the jets and it definitely ran smoother but once the car warmed up it died again. The car isn't actually overheating. Maybe it's not related to warming up and it could simply be that dirt in the tank is being agitated when the car is on the move?
I'll look at the jets again and check the condition of the tank.
Thanks again for your help.

I had this on a the last car I bought, the previous owner couldn't find the problem. It was the routing of the fuel pipe from the pump to the carb, it should be clipped to the bulkhead under the rear window and loop around the engine to the carb inlet - if it's too close (or running along) the cylinder head you will have this problem; the fuel was vapourising before it reached the carb.

My advice would be:
Change the fuel lines (both the feed and return),
New fuel filter
Take the fuel sender out and clean the filter on the end of the rod
Replace the primary and secondary jets with the upgraded larger ones from Eurosport. (These will block up less and give extra performance)
Clean the carb out with an air compressor. Open the top, take all the jets out, use some carb cleaner, blow down the tubes and mop up the fluid in the bowls taking out any small bits of black crud/rubber lurking in there. Replace the jets in the correct order.
I'm confident this will sort it. Worst case, you need to drop out the tank and flush it out - but do this as a last resort.
Good luck

Thanks very much for your suggestions - much appreciated.
I'll try all your recommendations and hopefully I'll be motoring again.
