If I must... You're not mad!... You are insane! :P

Keep us updated with the restoration and good luck with the project. As these cars get rarer, its great to see people putting time and effort into restoring them. B)

Hi Christian,
I don't think your mad just crazy like myself. I started restoring my X'y 3 years ago a proper nuts and bolt job. have a look at my thread... I've come a long way since but it's been a journey I've still got a way to go. If I can help in any way please let me know.

Dave

Welcome to the asylum.

I've got a nut-case 1300 restoration project due to start in the near future (see the projects section). Hasn't moved for 30 years.

I've waited nearly 30 years for my X, a little bit of rust isn't going to put me off and nor should it you.

Lovely cars and such good fun when working. I've sworn against taking mine off the road for any longer than necessary, it's far too much fun to have to be without it.

Sooo.. On the hunt for panels if anyone has any for sale! Also, random question but what size battery do you guys and gals use?

She is home now and really is a lovely thing! I spent a fair few minutes marveling at the intricacy of the front boot release :-) will post some pics and words up after initial assesment shortly :-)

ha I thought so! Looks good, although I want mine to be stock (repairing will be difficult enough without mods!) I do like the de-bumpered look!

bit of an update :) have done more rust probing, and found more holes... though only really seem to be the outer skin? I have deemed both doors pretty shot so am on the hunt for a better pair, and indeed a new front bootlid would be far easier than welding the existing one... however the nearside sill is worrying, although the inner sill seems OK, there is lots of rot (and very old filler...) on there, so i think will get this bit done asap as i don't want the car to lose structural strength...

on another note, i couldnt resist testing a battery on her... (borrowed from swmbo's rav4 so it was returned double lively!) all electrics seem to work, she turns on the key but wont fire, not that i was expecting her too after sitting all those years. still was nice to hear, and obviously the engine will be getting a thorough going over later. i personally think the fuel pump could do with a strip down, however i have a good used item on its way along with release bearing, backing plate and slave cylinder for the clutch. anyway, have some photos! have removed most of the rust shavings from the bottom of the Apillar, what do you guys think? nice to see her eyes too!
