electric window motor

I have been working on restoring my 1984 vs. The driver's door electric window is very slow to raise and lower. I think the electric motor needs replacing. This is not the later type of window but is like a capstan with a metal cable wrapped around it. The cable pulls the window up and down.

Would you have any idea where I might find a replacement motor?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul, just as a thought usually it sometimes is worth lubricating the window channels (the U-profile flock lined rubber extrusions). Also once the door card is off smear some grease on the cables and this should help. You may have tried this approach already though.:)

Hi Damon.

Thanks for the tips. I have given all that a go but I can only conclude that it is a weak motor. Finding the right one is really tricky. I already bought the wrong one on ebay that is good for later cars. Even though electric windows were standard on my 1984 VS, the whole mechanism looks like it has had an electric motor added onto the standard manual capstan-winding-a-cable set-up. I have not yet delved deep enough into the door to see what the actual electric motor looks like, so I am not absolutely sure what it should look like.

Best,
Paul

Hi Paul,

If you have the door card off it may be worth putting a photo or two on here so that we can have a look at it.
Another thing is when you have the door card off check the rails inside the door are aligned ok and not putting unnecessary pressure on the glass because they have come adrift.

Thanks, Andy.

I have checked the rails are aligned and they seem fine. Giles (dg_rally) on ebay sent me a pic of a motor that I think is the right one. I put a photo of this below.

Best,
Paul
