Restoration about to start.... was created by Andy Rowley
Just arrived at my house, my GF was getting a bit lonely so it now has a friend!
It was originally a Lido but has been used for racing. I intend to remove the racing mods and restore it generally back to a Lido spec.
It doesn't have an engine at the moment and I have a few ideas as to what to install, but nothing decided. The bodywork is in very good shape, there is a bit of welding required but nothing structural.
It should keep me quiet for a while...
Incidentally, I used the Shiply website to arrange transport to bring the car to my house and it worked out very good, firms quote to deliver and you choose the cheapest / most suitable, very good and would use again.....might have to!!!

Looks like a worthwhile project that I was probably going to end up with if you hadn't of taking it on.
What engine and box are you considering for it?

Having had a look over it at the weekend and cleaned it up a bit it's looking pretty solid and I'm quite pleased with it.
Not sure about what engine to put in yet.
I want to use it to do mods that I cant/don't want to do to my GF.
Would like to go down the Lancia twin cam route, but still open to ideas. Not fussed about a turbo in there though.

Looks an exciting project, Andy! Best of luck with it.
You may have contradicted yourself a little when you say you wish to restore it back to Lido spec but then you say you want to put a Lancia twin cam in....
whatever you do I'm sure you will have fun doing so.

You've spotted my deliberate mistake there Jim
What I meant to say was I want to restore it back to look like a Lido but with a different engine and a few other things. See I'm already confusing myself!!
I know what I mean anyway

Glad to see it got to you ok. This car is in superb nick for the year and is a perfect base for a tasty engine. Good luck mate

Interesting paint job - sort of AItalia livery but no green in the mix.
Look forward to seeing more!

Yes, the current paint job is certainly unique.
The Starsky & Hutch style stripes are hand painted
If you look closely at the rear of the car, the original air intakes have been fitted to the rear of the wing to let hot air flow out. Not sure how successful this was?
So there's some repair work there to get that back to what it should be.

Has it had the bulkhead removed between the rear boot and engine?
Its funny what people do rather than just replacing the radiator.. I don't think the original rad is very efficient. Have you tried the scirocco rad? for £25 - almost a tenth of the price of a refurbished original X1/9 rad. and much much lighter too.
My radiator fan has seized up and I've been running for weeks with no need for a fan even in traffic. The modern Alu rad is very good, I do intend to fit a new fan though.

It should have had the bulkhead removed between the engine bay and rear boot, however, what has been done is a partial cut out which looks a bit of a mess. Therefore I don't think it was really getting the full benefit of the rear air vents.
I'll have a look at the scirocco radiator, I haven't taken this one off yet, however, I was going to get it re-cored anyway. so might consider the changing it anyway.
Generally I find that if the original radiator is well maintained and flushed out regularly they run as they should.
You should be able to pick up a radiator fan reasonably easily. Glad to hear your car is running OK now.
