1984 Eurosport X1/9 Rejuvenation

A while back Jim Freestone kindly gave me a 1984 X with a "bolt on" Eurosport bodykit, as part of a deal involving transplanting its tuned engine into his 1300 X.

The car has languished for too long and I have decided to get it mobile again. The car will be getting a 1.4 Punto GT engine and Uno Turbo bottom change box.

Pics to follow!

very good!

Do you find that design of the dip stick useless or is it just me?

Also what torque setting did you use for the cam housing bolts? My manual said 24 while the X1/9 Haynes said 15???

I will be very interested in seeing how you sort out the accelerator cable?

Any progress with the Dellara?

I need an engine stand to keep my spare one :)

Who needs 4th gear anyway...

Yes it is a bit useless in a mid engined car!

I do the cam housing bolts up a firm hand tight using a 3/8" drive ratchet held halfway up the handle, it's kind of by feel. I have seen so many stripped threads from overtightening those particular bolts. The only bolts I use a torque spanner on are head bolts and flywheel bolts.

On my sadly departed red Eurosport I fitted a PGT inlet manifold, which has the throttle cable assembly on the passenger side of the manifold, opposite to the X and the Uno Turbo. I used an aftermarket throttle cable. I will try to find a photo.

The Dallara hasn't progressed much this summer because Mark and Mal have been so busy with their rock and roll beds business. The car needs some tidying up of the rear chassis rail to clear the gearbox (I didn't want to just bash with a lump hammer) and preparation for painting. I still have to build the 1.9 stroker engine for it.

I struggle these days to work on car stuff because of my back. I have to sit on a chair to work at my bench!

Well, my PGT engine will be going in another car, as this car has gone to a new home! I hope the new owner will post his own restoration thread in the coming weeks.
