I have recently restored a 1500 1985 x/19 and she looks great. However after driving over 10 miles she starts to splutter badly, I have cleaned out the jets but this has not seemed to help. Any recommendations?

Also, when the roof is on the windows catch on the rubber seal on the roof when closing the doors. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if any advice would be appreciated on how to fix it.

Finally, is it normal to be able to lift up the back of the roof a little when it is fixed in position on the car?

Many thanks.

If your fuel lines are original they probably will need replacing as they get very brittle and bits of rubber can break off and clog up the jets...

The trick with closing the doors is to do it with your hand on the glass window, not on the metal doorskin! That usually ensures the door closes with the glass seated properly under the roof seal. No, the roof should not lift up, you can adjust the locating plates on the top of the rollbar to give the targa a snug fit. Also check the rubber targa hooks themselves haven't lost their thick rubber coating as this also contributes to a rattly roof.

Hope this helps!

I would recommend that you strip and clean the carb and give it a good service plus change the fuel filter and fuel lines if old. Might be worth looking at the fuel pump, I assume you have the original mechanical pump? A rolling road set-up I find is money well spent and finds most problems pretty quickly.
