Am still hunting a reasonable car please?

Hi. Depends on your budget, i see from your original post its about 2k. A gold one needing some light restoration went last week for £3727 on ebay but at 2k not sure you will get a reasonable one but wish you all the best. If i see one will let you know.

Yes, I mised out on the one on Ebay, and could have aforded that. Annoying! So - - still looking around, with an opportunity to go and see one coming up on an Auction.

Garry, Here's a difficult query for you! I have just viewed this afternoon a 1984 1500 with seemingly quite reasonable bodywork and paint. ,Even the undersealing looks sound and not freshly done to cover up any rust!! Seats are cream plastic though, so it's not a VS, and one cushion is split! It's on an Auction for tomorrow and can't be 'heard' until they start it up to drive it to the display section for the Bidding. Looks pretty sound underneath (including the deep boot corners front and back) from the rust point of view and the engine bay has been generally cared for.
No idea what it may go for - but it's on at no Reserve, so am tempted to attend. Real "Ball park figure" of course, but taking into account the risk of what may lurk within, but would you say that going up to around £4000 might be a reasonable gamble - or even £4500????

Hi. Cant find this what auction site is it on? My thoughts are this...what is mileage, has it been used or stored and requires recommision, any rust on inside engine bay on struts at side? What is mot history like? Is it a runner? Has it been resprayed? Any history?
Obviously not all original from what you say so that can reduce price. Without looking and knowing a bit more..price..well..going in blind start at 3k. For 4.5k i would want a servicable car that runs but would expect things need doing so would set aside 2k to cover. Hope this helps. Garry

Garry, Many thanks for fast reply,. I should have mentioned that it has a recent MOT and only 28K miles shown! There is an MOT 'history' on DVLA supporting that it was laid up as the Seller claims with no mileage from 2014 to 2021 when it was recommissioned and MOT'd again., All last five MOT's show no Recommendations apart from one tyre being low tread. Never seems to have been resprayed, and the engine bay has very little rust showing at all. The water pipes underneath look fairly rusty, but I guess that's quite normal!
Hope that helps with any estimation? . ( It comes up first thing tomorrow as it's number one in the queue!)

A806 HJU appeared on eBay 03 May 2022 with at starting bid of £3,750 this was reduced a few days later to £3,000, it was then shown as sold 09 May. The following day it was back on eBay with the same seller again for £3,750. I'm not sure if it was actually sold at this time.

Hi. Ha found the site. Keith Waterhouse comments are correct to help you. Well spotted Keith. Also it seems reasonable from what you say. Check the heater and cooling if all pipes rusty as if overheats engine could blow. Needs to be heard running! Also bit suspicious if sold recently as Keith points out. Seen video, not sure what the black patches are down side of each rear turrett, needs closer exam imo. If you can get it for 3k ish prob worth the risk...but have contigency monies aside!! Not convinced hasn't been resprayed but difficult to say from video. Let me know how you get on!

To both Gentlemen - Many thanks for advice and research. Will try to get the chap who's driving it into the auction to at least pop the headlights, and tell me what the gear shift/clutch feels like!

Update...one for sale on facebook.marketplace. 5k. Done 36k. New mot. Needs bit of work but alot done. Prob will take less than 5k
