Well this topic has opened my eyes! I decided to check the usual sales sites and I was pleasantly surprised!
There is a VS with 50k miles on Autotrader for £14,000! Are they actually fetching that sort of money now? It does look minty mint, but that's the sort of money delivery/ultra low mileage cars are fetching at auctions isnt it?
Here
Only 1 recent MOT, with failures and none previous to the last one suggesting it has been stood since at least 2011/12? but clean bill of health given at retest.
Dont get me wrong, I am not complaining, I have said for years they are a highly under rated (classic) car - without getting involved in the rust perception/Italian build quality argument. Dealer mark up aside, that seems strong money for a good one, since last time I checked the market place a couple of years ago for an insurance valuation!
carandclassic.co.uk seem to have a few, but again, there are a number of very low mileage cars fetching well over £10k, although back down to earth with seemingly decent cars around the £4-6K mark.
I know mine would sail through an MOT, I would be half tempted to sell at the prices that are being bounced about, as I havent used it properly since my daughter came along 2 years ago, although I know she would love it in years to come... And I would struggle to replace it in years to come with a car of similar provenance.
Incidentally, my friend phoned me the other day to tell me Classic and Sports Car have a write up about them and they quoted a good one at the £10k mark, so expect a few to come out of the woodwork!

Hi John,
I’ve been looking for a VS for sometime now.
The red VS you mention was offered to me 9 months ago for £5000 but the owner refused to get it MOTd.
It then ended up with the sellers nephew who advertised it on EBay at £7500.
It was on there for months until the current dealer obviously thought he’d buy it and try and make a killing.
He obviously didn’t look at all of the X1/9s on Car and Classic website at a fraction of the price of his that still haven’t sold.
The GF at £3,500 was offered to me at £3000 but it’s on the Shetland Isles.
You say that there are a lot of X1/9s FETCHING well over £10,000, don’t you mean that they are ADVERTISED at well over £10,000.
Very few of those sell and even the cheaper ones aren’t selling.
