Fiat Bertone X/19 Gran Finale 1989 for sale. was created by Christopher Capp
Hello everyone,
After fifteen years of ownership the time has come to sell my beautiful X1/9.
It will be listed on Ebay and Car and Classic shortly but you are reading about it here first.
You may have seen this car at a club event or at Brooklands and if so you will know that its one of the best and much admired examples.
The current mileage is just over 67000 and the MOT is valid until the end of May next year - it has passed its test first time without any advisories for the last fifteen years!
The original service book and owners manuals are present which details the fastidious maintenance this special car has enjoyed. Also included is the sales brochure and Fiat documents.
Over the years so much time and money has been spent to make it look superb and drive brilliantly - many subtle additions have been made to improve reliability too.
I started with a lovely solid original car with low ownership numbers and a full service history - there are almost too many invoices and receipts to fit into the owners wallet now.
Having started life in Sussex and London it was clear that this X1/9 had always been a car that was maintained regardless of cost by it previous owners.
The bodywork is just superb having been repainted by a skilled old school body shop some years ago, it looks very sharp with only very minor imperfections that you would do well to notice.
I removed the bumpers and had them restored by a metal polisher who done a superb job - then new number plates and plastic trims were added.
The Gran Finale badges are all present and have been restored to new condition to complement the paintwork.
To protect the lower part of the car I found some new old stock Fiat mudflaps and fitted them front and rear.
As its been stored in a dehumidified garage and only used in dry weather it is very well preserved and solid throughout. It would put more modern vehicles to shame!
The original wheels were refinished by Pristine and fitted with new Pirelli tyres.
The targa top has been rebuilt with new insulation and rubber seals before being refinished in satin black.
Most recently a complete new clutch with master cylinder was fitted - a new gear linkage and bushes means it changes gear wonderfully. The gearbox is great with no work needed other than regular non EP oil changes for peace of mind.
Last year the head gasket was replaced at an Italian specialist garage who also replaced the cam belt and lots of other top end components. The head was cleaned and pressure tested and got a clean bill of health. The engine oil and coolant was then replaced with quality fluids.
A four branch exhaust is fitted and looks amazing with a smart chrome tip that exits the rear of the car perfectly.
Lumenition electronic ignition is fitted with new leads and plugs. New fuels lines and filter have just been fitted.
The cooling system has been improved with a 1300 expansion tank and the main coolant pipes that run under the car have been replaced by stainless steel items at huge expense. A manual cooling fan puts you in control of engine temperature whilst the manual choke helps starting and idling from cold.
New brake hoses and master cylinder have been fitted to make the braking system as good as it can be.
Inside the alcantara interior is great, it has been reinforced with original materials and whilst you may notice some wear in a couple of tiny areas you will still appreciate the work a local trimmer has done on the seats.
All electrical items work as they should - new earth connections have been added.
The car now is now at a stage where it can be enjoyed and admired for years to come.
I wont be letting the car go cheaply but would entertain offers over £ 8000 before it gets listed elsewhere.
Location is Buckinghamshire.
