Dear Members,
please bear in mind when commenting on cars on ebay that they may well belong to members, ex members or members that will be joining our club.
Someone buying a car on ebay and then joining the club and reading some of the comments on thier pride and joy would not look at or see the club in its best light.
You would not like it it if it was you, thier are many cars out there in many different stages of rebuild and custom mods these should be akknowledged even if the mod is not something you dont personally like.
Ulimatley we loose members this way. and this is not what the club is about.
I'm sure that your mum told you "If you can not say anything constructive then best not to say anything at all"
Many thanks for your kind understanding
Andy

All reasonable points. On the other hand, eBay is arguably the world's biggest garage sale (pardon the pun) and so anything anonymously posted or bought there is fair game. If a seller/buyer wants more discerning treatment then there is always the "Cars for Sale" section on the Forum; or Club Classifieds, via the home page; or the magazine. I bought my X1/9 via a member's ad under 'Cars for Sale' on a previous incarnation of the Club website, about two years ago. (I wasn't a member at that time but that region of the club web site was then accessible to non-members.) I had lots of email dialogue with the helpful former owner - who was very honest about the car's history, faults and foibles - before I decided to buy. This gave me a very good impression of the integrity of the club. Around that time there was always a steady stream of cars for sale on the club website. I've never quite understood how eBay took over (perhaps subsequent problems with accessing the club site was a factor); but I guess that is now the first (or only) place many/most potential buyers visit to look for an X1/9, hoping for a bargain perhaps; and therefore sellers post their wares there because that's where most buyers go..etc., etc.....But every benefit has hidden costs. (Anyway, I'm still thinking about the immaculate 1300 lhd->rhd conversion from 1974! Only five days to go....)
Hope that's constructive.

I agree with both sides (just to stay on the fence
) so maybe we should keep our comments to things like :
"Great mod" or "weird colour" or "lots of luck to the buyer!" rather than
"only an idiot would buy that" or "can't believe anyone would pay £4.5k for a 1300" or whatever... discussion is good and ebay IS a public display cabinet, but like Andy says - let's not get personal.
