So I took a risk and put in a bid for this car at the H and H auction, seems you've got to be careful what you wish for
Once jump started and re inflated I nearly killed myself at the first junction. A horrific 15 minutes later I left the car in a Worcester garage with a mechanic who was over 40, which was the best news of the day.
The car has clearly been cared for but needs help having sat for a long time, what are your experiences of that ? Tyres are being done.
So I'm looking for a brake master cylinder , are Eurosports still the right people ? Do you still recommend supply pipes Too ? Can a normal mechanic do this ? Or should I send a trailer and get it to an expert.
The gearbox synchro was crunchy too although it was supposed to of been done. Is there a kit and instructions for this known problem ? With only the key parts ? Is it an engine out job ? Could a normal mechanic be trusted with this ?
Would appreciate your input. The car has your stickers on it and has clearly been cared for, I'm happy with it despite almost dying.
Have a great weekend
Phil

Might be worth checking the clutch hydraulics while replacing the brake master cylinder. You need to get the clutch master cylinder off to get at it.
Also, if you are stripping down and fully refurbishing your braking system it is worth replacing the flexible hoses to the calipers if they haven't recently been done.
Eurosport can supply all of the brake parts if you check out their website.
It is worth noting that there is no servo on the X1/9 braking system so they wont react like a modern car. You've got to be positive when using the brakes on these things!
welcome to the wonderful world of X1/9s

I get almost all of my parts from Eurosport although I did give up on the gearbox when the synchro went on third and got a replacement rebuilt one

Re brake hydraulics - I have just done this job on my X1/9 and I can confirm its not something you can do in a hurry. The steering column was removed and I took the pedal box out completely to refurb everything. I replaced both the brake and clutch master cylinders along with the slave on my Gran Finale. While I had it apart I changed the supply pipes clips bushes and springs - everything! and then repainted the pedal box.
The brake flexi hoses were changed and the fluid resevoirs were removed and cleaned out before carefully and painfully reconnecting everything and endless pressure bleeding. Eurosport were great as usual and supplied everything I needed quickly - getting parts is the easy bit!
Good luck with your car I hope you can find someone to tackle this fiddly job at a sensible price - hopefully it will only need doing once.
Cheers Chris.

What can I offer you all in return ? Go and spend an hour on this site, there is even an X in one of their past auctions.
Happy Sunday all

Keep us informed how you get on with it.
As some of the chaps suggested above, it may be worth trailering it to a specialist to get the whole car checked over.
Good luck!
Cheers
