Alcan made some bodies in aluminium and showed one at the 1987 Geneva Motor Show. Not sure how many, if any, survive. Others may know more and chip in!

Thanks, interesting. Amazing that the costs can come close to steel when according to wikipedia "One tonne of aluminium requires the same amount of electricity that an average family uses in 20 years"!

The club were loaned one for the stand at the NEC classic and sportscar show circa 1997..... It was on the stand with my 1300. The bonnet was unbelievable - you had to be careful you did not flick it off its hinges! It was kept at Alcans factory in Banbury which has now gone so wonder what happened to the car..... I've got a load of promo material for it somewhere. I think there were 5-6 built in both red and black.

Hi Nello,
I Have a question from Daniele Accornero -
"Hi Sharon, I am writing to ask you for information about the aluminum X1/9 exhibited at the NEC in Birmingham in 1997. Can you tell me its chassis number?"

Please do you have any information?

Thanks, Sharon.

The Bertone collection X1/9 Alcan superlight is now in the Volandia Museum at Milan Malpensa airport, after it was moved from Bertone Stile at Caprie.
