2 mad X1/9s without roofs in a rainstorm! was created by Lynne
On the back road through Rhyd from Maentwrog to Beddgelert 5:30 - 6:30pm tonight.
Gomer in the GF in front, me in the yellow 1300 - yes the GF is back on the road (legally) having passed its MOT one day short of exactly 5 years after the brakehose split and the subsequent fire resulted in a write-off due to uneconomical repair.
We started out from Newtown in bright sunshine, but it got duller and duller as we journeyed north, then started to rain at Trawsfynydd.
Not a lot of people know this(!), but as long as you don't drop below 30 mph in rain, generally the rain will go over the top of the car rather than fall in - however due to tourists/non-locals not knowing the road and having to be careful in the rain, we did fall below 30 quite often, and at times were stationary in a queue of cars waiting for a bus or other wide vehicle to go past in the other direction.
Result - damp seats and clothes and a bad mood - except for the fact that neither car needed attention at all on the 100 mile trip!
Callender here we come!

At over 30mph in rain I wish I was shorter Lynne!
When I was a kid, eating ice cream too quickly resulted in an ache in the forehead.
Now I have confessed once or twice to being an adult I have had the same happen without the ice cream. roof off in the rain doing over 30.
Never a truer word as Mark Slade has said tho....If the roof is on, what's the point?!
Congrats on the GF

We have had the same experience driving home from North Wales up the dreaded Motorways, roof off, a couple of miles from home, torrential rain. We stayed dry until we came off the MWay, only got wet at junctions and traffic lights.

Mmm remember some X1/9 being caught in torential rain some years ago (could not see the X1/9 in front rain ) having to stop to put on the roofs
we only got wet then, cos the Editor drove at a high rate of knots through
the puddles whilst we and Mr Roberts were all putting our tops back on
Kids will play
