Thought my GF was one of the lowest milers out there (8800) til I saw this 79 1500 with 5900 miles on it on www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk . One owner but they are looking for nearly 10 grand! Looks nice though..have a look...

Yes it's the same one-I checked the numberplate. Not a bad price for such a low mileage minter.

Im not surprised considering the amount of interest the cars got from many people at the NEC in November.

Lets hope the trend continues and encourages more people to preserve them 8) 8)

and what would you do with a 5900 miler. Its value being in the low mileage would mean you could never use it without devalueing your investment. Cars are for driving, not things to hang on a wall and look at.

i personally would drive it everytime the sun was out! as you say no point buying a car if you not gonna use it.....it should be an investment in fun!

I reckon it'd spit its dummy on the first good thrash... and leave you on the hard shoulder.

You're not wrong-mine had 6633 miles when I bought it in May 2009 and it left me on the hard shoulder after picking it up, 20 miles down the road! The garage that sold it to me recovered us and fixed it. Turns out one of the jets was loose and also old fuel which had sitting in the tank for years gummed up the carb.
It's now up to 8,300 (totally trouble free) so I have been driving it plenty in the dry and you can thrash it all you like! So you can have a low mileage car, use it and still maintain it's low mileage 'status' and therefore it's value.
It would be a shame to use a 5,900 miler as a daily commute but you can still enjoy it plenty on sunny evenings/weekends...

Lucio - if your car still has the original fuel hoses I'd change them asap as its only a matter of time before your carb gets gummed up again!

Hello all,
Just bought a 1989 GF with 9500Mls, very clean, just changed timing belt and doing lots of other things, just spent 2 days fitting a new radio, space in dash is not iso standard, had to build it up to 180 X 50. very fiddly taking out dash. Can anybody help with chassis numbers, I have another 89 GF with chassis no 07164500, according to data I have seen this seems to be the last GF made, Can somebody comment on this ?, I would love to have the final one. Anyone interested in a run over here in Ireland? anyone over this way on this forum, all comments welcome, tchearnley@hotmail.com
Regards, Tony

hi tony sorry to disappoint you but i did an article on the last right hand drive x1/9 for the x1/9 ownersclub in 1999/2000 and it had done 75miles at the time and had a 13k price tag, this car was amazing and it was verified by bertone that it was the last right hand drive x1/9....it was sold to guy in my home town and i spoke to him in the summer and his mileage was about 22k miles and i think he said the value had dropped to 6k,he had not used the car for 2 years and it had a stainless steel sports exhaust and twin dcnf carbs, when i spoke to him he was going to change the cam too,i personally would have kept it standard and the mileage down to a minimum as it was the last one cheers pete
