Lido or Dodo was created by Grimy
Just got my £128 ebay Lido from Glenrothes yesterday. Dodo I'm afraid. If at all possible I would have restored it but I have never seen an X1/9 in such poor condition. If the Targa hadn't been on I'm sure it would have folded in half when it came off the transporter. There's not one panel free of rust and most arn't attached to anything. The engine is seized and the cylinder head is off. No alternator or carb. The all important interior is trashed. On the positive side the expansion tank is in exellent condition and one or two of the bumpers could be salvaged so ebay look out.

P.S. pics to follow. :(

Might be worth putting the VIN etc on the Lido register thats online for completeness' sake if its not there before it goes to the great big scrapyard in the sky! You'll get your money back though if you ebay all the trim especially the 1300 specific parts... What is the dashboard like as I'm after a spare 1300 dash? Also do you have the complete medley of door handles and boot release handles with a matching key, I'd be really interested in that...

Shame its in such poor condition...I do believe I know that car from when I was a kid, there was a Lido parked in the same street as my nursery school, and I'm pretty sure its that one.I've asked me mum to dig out any pics of me at nursery just in case its in the background!!

Are you 100% its not restoreable? You've seen Ian's!!!

Pity we didn't have a chance to meet up when you were down here! ,although I didn't get home 'till after 8.

It would be interesting if that was the one.

As for restoration the chassis appears straight. There are numerous large holes in the floor pan. Inner middle and outer sills have dissolved for about an inch or so from the floor pan up. Front suspension pickup points are very poor. front valance under the plastic trim has dissolved. rear panel all the metal has gone on the lower 3 inches. Rear boot floor good and engine bay not too bad. Rear rowers not too bad. Inside rear weel arches very poor and no longer connected to rear wings. Doors need a lot of welding but repairable. front boot floor needs quite a bit of work. Seats totally rusted to runners. Interior filthy. one door card good one no use. One bumper has holes in it. Others not too bad. Petrol tank and coolant pipes have been squashed (consistant with scrapyard damage). Upper rear wings have large holes. The car has been jacked at point front of rear wheels and so have have collapsed Thats at first glance but you know how rust is much worse than it first appears.

Moved car onto my patio (Very understanding and X1/9 loving wife). This gives me time to fully understand the damage. Tiff and Ian if you have broadband I can send you pics of the worst and see what you think. I'm in no hurry to scrap it but don't want to flog a dead horse. I got an email from the previous owner he said that an Aberdeen Lido owner had contacted him. (never seen one here!) Does anyone up here know?
Despite all the damage I now understand how over engineered the X1/9 was I thought it would fall apart but chassis still seems stiff. door gaps are as is after all the winching jacking pulling dropping and draging. It's still bloody heavy after all is removed. 8)

Chris no problem. If I scrap I will let you know. The lens are in perfect condition but fixings are rusted so I will have to go easy to remove clean. All advice welcome. Are you going to Ireland this year. If so postage would not be a problem.
