My Club membership expires before the AGM, which I recall needs a membership card to get into Gaydon. If the renewals don't come through will we still be able to get in with an out-of-date card?

I'm in the same boat as Bruce - I think my membership has expired but I've not seen or heard anything. Without a new card I may not be able to get into the AGM ...

I have been unable to show my membership card to the Security on the gate at Gaydon they usually wave me in... say you are from the X1/9 OWNERS CLUB (membership card is used as a voting aid as we have had
car owners of X1/9 turning up voting even though they are not members)
If members of the committee have a problem with not turning up at the AGM then one can only hope that a writen report is given/sent to the club
secetary to read out at the meeting,
I pray that all member of the committee are at the AGM but on the day who can tell what will happen.

My membership expired on Aug 16th, & i have had no notice of renewal, i presume the post box fire has been to blame!

I too am another with their membership seemingly in limbo - I sent off the renewal form and cheque in mid August, and havn't had anything back yet. I don't know whether it is just a question of waiting, or if the cheque actually got there as it hasn't been cashed yet.

I know the problem with the postbox fire has been compounded by the membership secy being out of the country, but something should be done to at get some sort of clarification for those like me (and there seems to be quite a few of us). I have emailed the membership secy, but so far no response.

Having a efficient membership policy is vitial. It will prevent a few people just giving up on the Club, and also if it is efficient it can be stricter which will encourage renewals as otherwise they may loose access to the forum etc..

Maybe there would be some benefit in having a semi-automatic system - e.g. online payment via PayPal (5% charge, but if that prevents the loss of one member in every 20 then it is worth it) and you could then have have a forum password issued for each member that expires shortly after the membership expires. Of course its extra work (that somebody has to do) to set up in addition to doing things the old-fashioned way, but if say 20% of the members use then maybe it would make the job of the membership secy easier in the long run. It would also allow people like me not to have the worry / uncertainty of whether they are in or out of the Club, and give the impression of a well run organisation.

Just some thoughts really as I am sure this will get resolved .... eventually.

I have just got a helpful email reply from Andy Kerr. He said that he is back in India with (expletive deleted) work, and that he has reposted 200 renewals whilst he was back, so I guess you should be getting or have got your membership cards. He said he will be back in the UK for a couple of days next week.

However, mine seems to have gone missing - so I will be resending the cheque/form. Maybe my first form went to the previous membership secy as I used my renewal form but a few months had lapsed as I was without X1/9 for a couple of months. I suppose the previous membership secy should pass things on though - could always just have got lost in the post.

Maybe there'll be a new membership sec after the AGM and then Andy will be able to concentrate his efforts on getting another great magazine out ...

My membership renewal came through yesturday although the letter states it was due for renewal on Aug 16th. Not quite sure what to do, still wish to be part of the club but value for money - undecided......the one thing apart from the forum and tech advice that is top with the club when I first joined is the club mag which I see hanging through my letterbox roughly one in every three months. OK so I dont send anything in to be put in the mag - hands up, but having had my Xey for just over a year and done 4 miles in it I dont realy have a lot to report, but still I love to read the mag. Well guys, £25 is a few beers and a curry on a Friday night, should I save it for next week or send my cheque of in the hope that I may receive a club mag before Christmas ?. It might sound like im bitching but please dont take it that way - light hearted it is ment to be, I just enjoy the mag...........

Rob, rest assured that everyone is working towards a more regular supply of mags. I think the AGM will help to resolve a few of our problems!
You're right about the £25, it is just a couple of beers & a curry! When you've covered a few more miles in your X you'll be glad of your local meets & tech advice on the forum. My advice is to stick with it for another year & benefit from the rejuvenation of the club!

Cheers,

Nige

:D I got the computer and the database and have dabbled and then blitzed the renewals, the new members, banked the cheques and sent out a batch of reminders for those of who will be doing so to renew your membership. These will be dropping on your mats in the next few days.

The local postie will have been off work these last couple of days with the weight of his sack having done him a mischief... it nearly ruptured me carrying it all down to the post on Monday.

I assure you that as far as membership goes, I will process the paperwork on a regular basis... at least once per week and if you care to call me (number in the mag) with your problems (Club ones anyway) I will endeavour to answer them promptly.

Anyone who is wondering what has happened to their cheques, replies to queries etc... if you haven't heard by Friday of this week (1.12.06) please call or e-mail me again to remind me.

Many thanks for your patience,
