I thought you would know Tiff, seems there will be a run on them down here in the TVS region, apparently we've all got at least one of our digits hidden away where the sun don't shine. I wonder if Halfrauds has got them in stock? Probably best not to share said tool for fear of us all coming down with some ghastly bottom bug!

Cheers,

Nige

No-one's upset Paul, just having a bit of fun! I like your style & agree with most of the sentiments. Just didn't think that within a few months of becoming a member i would be running the TVS area!

Nige , I had only been a member for a few months when I took over the LSE role. Had only one or two attend my first pub meets, and had trouble getting 3 entrants for my first Bromley show. That was 5 years ago, and this years show had 12 entrants and could have had at least another 4, had they not contacted me so late.
I assumed, back then, that I would be inandated with requests and suggestion for meets, but not so - it seems that a large proportion of members in my area are content not to get involved in the social side. I
can only cite 3 local members who support meets, - all the rest come from HCN, (as Paul correctly affirms) and the odd one or two from TVS.
I only organise a couple of pub meets nowadays, as any more seem to not be attended. Have sat in a pub, alone, on more than one occasion, and more with just one member turning up. - (and I can no doubt have a beer with Jim anytime) The degree of commitment as an RO is up to him/her, unlike other committee posts, so its as easy or hard as you make it.
On the magazine front, since most of the membership cost is swallowed up by the production of a mag, couldnt we extend the "internet" mag only option,( given to overseas members), to uk members with a cheaper fee, so that members have a choice whether or not to get a mag. I for one would be quite happy to read the mag on-line, and if I wanted a hard copy could print it out. Perhaps a survey of members to ascertain exactly how many members really need a printed mag, would give the club an idea of the way forward, in this age of multiple communications, would be
an idea worth kicking around.
As for the frequency of magazines, since it seems that they are difficult to fill, its as much the members fault as the poor old, -always maligned - editor, issues often containing more articles written by the editor than the hundreds of members who read it, some of who, then feel hard done by.
Until members submit sufficient articles on a frequent basis, then there seems no point to having a monthly mag anyway.! I expect this old chestnut will never die, as it seems to be resurrected every few months on the forum, and will ,no doubt, continue to do so. Hooray for the internet
e - mail, and our website, these are far more valuable than a mag as far as I am concerned, and I am sure that one day everyone will have access, so the revenue spent on the (expensive) production of a mag, can be used in other areas , or passed back to the members, in the form of reduced membership for example.
Anyway, am going on a bit, but its good to share my thoughts folks.

8) I can remember getting a phone call from a member saying that I had not done an event in his area. He suggested a car show that he was going to be on his doorstep and would be nice to have some more X1/9 sixty plus miles to the carshow to be the only Italin car at the meet re-rang the owner after confirming the weekend before he was going to be there only to find out from his Mumthat he had gone away on Holiday !.or on the same line where six members turn up at a local pub for one member who gets a free meal from the landlord :x never to be seen again.

MY SUGGESTED POLICY TO ALL R/Os IS TO DO SOMETHING YOU WANT TO DO IF THE MEMBERSHIP DOES NOT LIKE IT GET THEM TO BE THE NEXT R/O

As for the magazine ! This time it has been due to a computer problem
gave Warren the write up for Udine 2005 with 600 +jpegs from Bones which were down loaded the evening before Callander last year which has never seen the printers plus other material which has been lost

If we only have some 100 members using the site what chance do we have of some one putting there article on these web page and then resubmitting the information to the webeditor fotr the web magazine page
or would this be another moan saying what do I get for my membership at least we can start again saying we get a magazine .....or what happens when you ve got a computer problem.

Either way you cant keep all the membership or committee happy all of the time but the club is nearly twenty five years old.

perhaps one day I might be able to spell

Hi Nige

If you want to have ago at being the RO for TVS I can do a couple of events in the north of the region as I live in south bucks (Im actually 1 mile inside the HCN posse area) in Marlow on the bucks / berks border.

Dont know where you are but if you need help / advise let me know. If you do it just go for it and do the events you think wothwhile as my experience was like Frostys in that I twice had meets at pubs where the members who suggested the pubs didnt show ! Most enjoyable event for me in the TVS region was / is the Brooklands one.

Have flags and bunting ready !

Stuart
