The oldest X in town! was created by X1/nige
Just been thinking about the 1974 X in the club classifieds. Is that the oldest X in the UK, or does anyone know of any older cars still going? Were they first imported in '76? Simon, you might know seeing as people tell me you're the oldest member of the club!!!

Cheers,

Nige

Radbourne were converting 1300 from LHD to RHD before the offical imports started think that there were other companies doing the same

Well, I'm neither - by quite a long way

As far as I've heard there are none of the early RHD conversions still on the road, so I would guess that one could well be the oldest.

I've a feeling that Gomer has the remains of a pretty early one in some state of disrepair.

"Oldest member"

As the founding memebers of this club are still "members"
free membership nomiated to them and agreed by the membership at each AGM each year .

Joal and Brian will at any event come and introduce them selves to you at
any show where we have a stand NEC/BROOKLANDS/BROMLEY etc
..........they then tell you the stories of owning ther cars putting padding in the early 1500/1300 roof or putting black tape around the windows as these idead had not been tried by Fiat at that time .
Digital dash board yes they had done that as well

My apologies Simon! It seems the X is well loved by the older generation, i had a new tyre fitted the other day & the guy said his Grandad drove one up until a few years ago! Also while i was looking for a car i went to Rochester in Kent to see a D reg that was owned by the chaps' recently deceased father-in-law (70 plus). I just wonder how they manage to get in & out of them!

Sorry I feel I have to disagree.

People who get old might well go for something a bit sporty "hmmm, old father time is catching up, lets go for something sporty"
but then because they are older they start thinking things like "ooooh, well, my sporty number must be safe (rules out anything Italian then)....oooh how about Audi, do they do anything sporty"

Then, lo and behold, before you know it an Audi TT is on the shopping list.
Go look for them.....so many i see have the owner of 'more mature' years sitting at the wheel!

Seems like its this car now on Ebay.... Clicky
Looks lovely! I would say its spot on for the money the chap's asking as I paid a very similar amount for my own 1300 with 18K miles on it...

Yes car is in eccelent condition. It belongs to the R.O. for the ENE and as advert says does not get a lot of use.

I spotted it too Jim. Is that an original Fiat red, i thought the early cars were more of an "orangey" colour. Looks a gem though! Now, where is that surplus 4k i had lying around!!

Nige,

Actually I'm pretty sure the early Italian spec X1/9s did come in Rosso red, however that car looks sooo shiney its probably been resprayed at some point....

Go on buy it you know you want to and then keep it for 'best' while you can thrape your 1500 every day! :)

Jim.
