I have had the following e-mail from "mike" who has applied to join
our club, but urgently needs some advice.
"Hi,
I need some help!
I've been trying to reregister my 1987 Bertone X1/9 in France and they won't accept the english registration certificate even though its a european model certificate. They insist upon a copy of the "European Type Approval" certificate.
Does anyone in the club have a copy of this document that they could send to me by email?
If not should I be writing to Bertone or to Fiat for this information?
Thanks
Mike Cleaver"
Can anyone help?? I will e-mail any replies to him.
I have told him that all he should need is the "type Approval Number"
from the same plate as the chassis number.
our club, but urgently needs some advice.

I'm about to go through the same process with my currently UK registered Xy here in France, tell 'Mike' he will need to contact Fiat UK or Fiat France in order to obtail the 'Certificate of conformity' for his car after giving them the car's chassis number - they normally charge around 60 quid for the privelage of supplying it!

Not the same thing i'm afraid - he needs the 'official' document from Fiat.
After that it is the usual French paperchase with all the relevant documents - if Mike wants to email me
( notinmylifetime@gmail.com ) I can fill him in with what's required.
Or send him this link;

Older cars need an approved inspection at a d.r.i.r.e. depot,
www.nord-pas-de-calais.drire.gouv.fr/
For cars younger than 1999 the european certificate of conformity is required from the makers rep in the country it was originally sold in, not made in. Been there done that and got the t-shirt. By the way the car should be standard. no wide wheels and tyres, they check the book to see if the car conforms to french standards and that the car has original spec equipment. p.s, if the car isan ex- swiss or american market version it will fail the inspection.
best of luck its a slow process, and one that can cost you a couple of hundred euros, if you have owned the car for at least 6 months then you may get it cheaper as it will be a change of address. oh! and remember to tell the dvla or they will hound you for the road tax!!!!!
