Happy new year all. I have just got the car out of the garage for a quick play. Everything works still, apart from the handbrake warning light. Haynes seems light on information. Can anyone help with the switch location and /or relay location please?

There is usually a pin which prevents the needle from dropping to zero.

The switch is just like a brake light switch and it is located on the handbrake. So, nearer your pinkie finger as you would operate the handbrake.
It might just need adjustment, but can check it by shorting the contacts out.

I’ve seen a parts photo now. Any idea how to get to the switch and remove the rubber cover from the lever?

Yes, easy just unpeeled it . Claire sells a new switch if required for just £5.40
Mine just required adjustment though, it was my footbrake switch that failed just before the MOT!!

I’ll wait until it’s not -1 outside then before attempting to move the rubber shroud!

I recall now, the handbrake on warning switch is wired to a "flash" relay which is then shared - in parallel with the Low Fluid sensor switch in the resevoir to illuminate the Inst Pack warning light. So warning steady on - low fluid, flashing - handbrake on. Means the low fluid warning light is tested every time you park up.

Another thought: I recently had an issue with my fuel gauge not working. After checking everything else in the circuit I removed the instrument panel.
The nuts that held the gauge in place were rusty. This was quite surprising because there was no other signs of corrosion on the panel.
The nuts helped to make the electrical connection for the gauge. Once cleaned up everything worked fine.

It could be possible that you might have a similar issue if the switch at the handbrake end is OK.

Thanks Andy, I’ll start with the easiest and check the switch!
