Dumb question, now it’s got cold
what antifreeze should I be put in the x? Not had a water cooled car befor (always had air cooled vws befor) so I am lead to believe that ther are more than one type and should I be useing tap water or deionised water to dilute and to what strength?

There should hopefully be a mix of water and antifreeze in your coolant at the moment! If there isn't then you need to sort it asap!
Generally most people use the blue coolant in the X1/9 in a 50/50 mix.
The coolant capacity is approx 11 litres, so if you are doing a drain and refill then you'll need a 5 litre bottle of coolant.

Tap water is OK, if your water isn't too hard. I have a water softener in my house, so use tap water.

If you search through the forum you'll find a few threads about coolant from over the years.

cheers

......I think the coolant will also have a corrosion inhibitor in it so always good to put it in.

An alternative to the classic Blue is Prestone…you can get it from Amazon, Toolstation even Screwfix I believe, it’s an OAT antifreeze with corrosion inhibitors and doesn’t require the 3 year ish replacement…
