Hi, is there a separate relay for the dipped headlight in a standard 1988 Bertone? Is there also one for the main beam? If not, is it advisable to put them in - I've been advised to if lights are used on long journey. Guy at garage reckons back of sliding light switch looked as though overheating.

From the factory there is no relay for dipped headlights, As your mechanic says, this leads to the switch overheating and wearing out. Adding one is well documented and pretty straight forward. Lots of ways to do it I managed to fit the relay on mine into the fuse box area under the dash on the passenger side. However there are many options on how and where to do this. Bonus benefit will be brighter headlights.

Thanks. How many hours work for an auto electrician would you say?

I think you are in luck. looks like the new version of the club magazine annswers a lot of questions about this.
My guestimate is a professional should be able to do this in 1-2 hours (probably less than 1)
There is also some great info on the some of xweb forum, check that out too
Either give this to your friendly auto electrician as a start point and ask them for a quote or makes for a good beginner project
