Hi. What is the safest running temp to let a 1500cc run to if stuck in traffic. Appears to be differing thoughts on the web.

Off the top of my head the normal running temp,is around 180~190F, in traffic the stock fan kicks in (on my car anyway) on the next mark up or 225~230F ish, if the needle is getting near the red mark I’d be concerned, you may need to do some work on the cooling system and radiator…IE flush the systems and engine block, bleed correctly.

Hi. Thank.you. All ok then as went just above 90 on the temp guage then lowered when eventually got moving
again. The car had been flushed and cleaned 2yrs ago before i bought it with a new cooling fan switch fitted and coolant temp sensor but yesterday was first time got stuck in traffic in hot sun as the guage rose!

Make sure the radiator is burp’ed. I do this with the nose of car down slightly, cold engine and filler cap off. Crack open the radiator bleed valve until coolant flows out, nip back up…

If the temperature does start creeping up over time with use, it may be worth looking at getting the radiator re-cored at some point in the future.
That always ensures that the temperature is where it should be.
