Can I ID a car and spec from the VIN plate?

morning all,
A mate of mine had an X1/9 project in his workshop for many years and has accepted that he isn't going to do anything with it. It was stripped to a shell about 9 years ago, he has no idea if he has the V5C or not and doesn't remember much about the car, other than it was red.
He has offered it to me as parts for a reasonable amount and I've agreed to take it on. I got a picture of the VIN plate and I was curious about the general spec, year etc of the car.
Please note, I have no intention of putting the car back on the road, I am only interested in the body panels plus a few other mechanical bits. I'm just curious about the vin plate
