Petrol changes

I see the petrol standards are changing this summer, standart 4* changes from E5 to E10. The UK Govt site says all pre 2001 Fiats should use E5, ie super grade when the changes occur. Is the X19 an exception?

I assume X19 owners will need to use 'super' grade but I'm wondering what if you have changed fuel hoses to the latest standards, does that mean standard 4* could be used? I see E10 is also said to increase corrosion and may impact cold starting. . Unfortunately not all garages sell super grade.

I am pretty sure that Ethanol absorbs water. I will use unleaded but add good old Redex. its oil really but should help coat the alloy parts against corrosion.
Eurosport sell the proper hose.
Fuel tanks may need draining as the water will collect at the bottom, and rust, so no more running on empty.

Unfortunately I doubt Redex will do anything to prevent corrosion in carbs, fuel tanks etc.

Thanks, I followed the link. I had not realised even the super grade is only planned to stay at E5 for 5 years. The link also mentioned ethanol stabilisers. A quick search revealed some at Toolstation at £7.98 to treat 150 litres, tats about 5p per litre...that seems reasonable.

I bought some of the Castrol stabiliser, a bit more expensive but if it does what it says it does then it’s worth it given the low mileages we do in our cars.

What chemical process is involved with these products?
Red X is oil. I think the other two are also oil.
A thin coating of oil will protect aluminum from oxidisation.
We ought to look more carefully into any quick fix, like the "Wonder Fuel Catylist Tablets" not even a money back guarantee these days, but a good get rich quick scheme.
