Carb problem was created by Andrew Sinclair
Here's a strange one...
My 1500 is on its original, standard carb. It runs beautifully. However, my idle speed/choke appears to work the wrong way round... When I start from cold the idle speed is low, to the point where if it's cold enough the car struggles to keep running. As the car warms up, the idle speed increases, to the point where, at normal engine operating temperature, it's sitting at about 1500rpm at idle.
Can anyone tell me what to fix please??

Some years ago this used to happen to my wife’s Volvo 340 1.7. The local Hometune guy identified the fault as being a warped carburettor base which created two air gaps between its base and the manifold.

I agree. They do seem to warp readily, mine was, nothing worked properly until the warp was removed. I had it done professionally as it is hard to come by a truly flat surface at home, although plate glass, if you can get a piece, is flat and you may be able to use that to do it yourself.

Hi Andrew,

Eurosport do a replacement carb base gasket.(code EN019)
If you check the flatness of the base of your carb to make sure its not too bad and then fit a new gasket hopefully will solve your problem.
