Hello guys and girls.

I joined the owners club about a week ago asking for knowledge and have been in touch with Speedy.

I was thinking of taking on a project but then I saw this on eBay and yesterday done a 600 mile round trip to go and view it, bought it.

Its really clean and "rust free" although there are signs of a bit of filler here and there.

It needs some TLC after not being driven for many years but I know a good mechanic.

It basically needs a good service, brakes bleed, and although the gears change OK, it does catch a little in 3rd and 4th. I've found a referb gearbox not far from me so whilst its at the mechanic's I'm going to get him to put the referbed one in and whilst its all out get some new or just more sound proofing in/on the bulkhead.

I'm really looking forward to the summer in this :woohoo:

Looks very smart While the gearbox is out I would replace the clutch and release bearing as the costs are not much. There have been plenty of posts recently about cars misbehaving after being laid up for a while and so well worth looking through them. The problems are usually crud in the fuel lines and carb from old fuel pipes and fuel tank rust. If the brake master cylinder is faulty then you should also do the clutch master cylinder while your at it - oh, and get a book on yoga, you'll need it for this job

Yes, on my list for my mechanic - oh arc at me, "my mechanic". After spending 7-8 years restoring my camper I've learned the hard way sometimes it's better to pay someone who knows what they're doing rather than learn and have a go yourself.

But yes, clutch stuff, brake stuff, while its at his he can do it.

Proper oil and water/anti freeze, fuel lines, sparks, ht leads etc etc.

Doesn't have really any service history despite being told it does. So I want to get the old girl running and off to a good start. Whilst it's being taken apart I'll probably clean the fuels tank as well but I recon the carbs probably need some attention ,as well as other jobs.

I'm really looking forward to this new adventure.

Before you go to the trouble of changing/refurbishing the gearbox try changing the clutch fluid and renewing the clutch master and slave cylinders (or at least their seals). Mine was doing the same but with only 26K miles on the clock it seamed odd that the gearbox could be the fault. In my case renewing the fluid and seals did the trick!

Thanks for that, I'll make that the 1st job for my mechanic.

Are there any other common faults on the X that I can ask my mechanic to check.

I'm completely new to these.

Also , insurance. I've had a good quote from Adrian Flux with limited mileage but I wondered who you guys are using.
