Is this as bad as it looks?

The owner of the X1/9 in France that I was interested in sent me a batch of recent photos of their immaculate one owner X1/9.
However only one photo actually opened up but it has already put me off making in the 3 day trip to see it.
Surely you could not describe this car as immaculate and what of the rest of it?
Look at the corrosion.
I'm thinking it's too risky to make a long expensive trip if the rest of the car turns out to be like this.
Any thoughts?
See photo.

All I see is a bit of dirt.

It's funny how people see things differently.
Surely if you were planning to sell a car you'd clean the dirt off which makes me think this is a bit more than dirt.
This would not how I would present my 'immaculate' car.

That sticker looks like that in my car and it's not rust.

Personally, I like to see a bit of dirt in the engine bay. If it's too pristine I worry that the car isn't used much, which is usually much more problematic - or a sign that it isn't reliable.

I'm giggling here. My sticker looks like that, my engine bay is minging and my car is uber-unreliable!

The problem is that the car hasn't been used at all for many years and has sat in a barn in Brittany.
The owner said she will spend me a video of it this week, let's see.
Oh and surely that isn't where the sticker goes anyway?

The sticker looks to be in about the right position to me.
My old 1983 X1/9 had one in that position. My GF has it further over on the mounting turret.

Most people don't always consider cleaning the engine bay, and if it's just dirty then that can be cleaned.

I guess you just have to accept that people have different opinions of what the term "immaculate" means.....

Hope it works out OK.

From experience when a car is being sold privately it will not be valeted as a dealer would. I prefer deal with a private sale as the sale is personal as opposed to business deal.

If it was just around the corner then it wouldnt be so bad but it's in another country and it would take 3 days plus a wad of cash to view it.
All of the cars I've sold HAVE been immaculate including the engine bay.

I think to get the definitive answer you'll have to pop over and view. I agree with all that has been said for and against about very clean, pristine and in working condition. While pristine should give a good idea about the body condition it doesn't necessarily follow that the running, gear, fuel system, suspension, brakes etc are similarly A1. In this case the grubby regular driver may be better in these respects as it is being kept in a good running condition.
Good luck in your choice

if you clean the original sticker too much it might flake off and be lost forever! :(

It's better than the one on my car. You can also tell the engine bay has never been repainted...

Who needs 4th gear anyway...
