led side lights. was created by David Moult
Today I fitted some new "Ring" led front side light replacements, they are bright. Also some stainless steel screws for the lenses, the old plated steel ones were waisted, literally.
I will fit led's for the rear as well and have the lights on more often in the day.
Do any other members have similar little hints for newcomers like myself to make running the cars easier?

Who needs 4th gear anyway...

I put retrofit LEDs behind the clocks as I could only tell how fast I was going at nigh by the light of the street lamps
They are the same size bulbs as the side repeaters (T10).
I also fitted one to the fibre optic set (bulb located behind the ashtray) for the switchgear - so the switches are actually visible.

Wanted to make dash brighter but looked at LED T10 W5W on ebay and the advert said
Please note: LED bulbs are not as bright as standard incandescent bulbs but they are longer lasting.

Its a bit more complicated than that I think... but they worked for me!
I don't think LED's really suit the x1/9 and you don't want the dash instruments too bright anyway. Even the dimmer works with the T10 5W LED in my car. I ordered some very cheap on amazon direct from Hong Kong.
I think they only work one 'way round' (polarity?) though.
The lack of brightness from the old tungsten bulbs is probably down to the X1/9 wiring, the same thing that causes the dim headlights and slow 'power' windows...
I bought these:
amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00EJDN6OG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00
and these:
amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00D1ID5QE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
(but cant recall how many I needed) I only used them to replace the bulbs that 'wash' the dials with light, they are not backlit like modern cars.
