Fuel pump was created by Darren Frankland
Hi all
just interested to know if it is possible to change the mechanical fuel pump for an electric pump on my 1500 vs 1985 x
seem to have an intermittent problem where i go for a drive and find it cuts out, when i look at the fuel filter there is no fuel there after manipulating the fuel pipes i can manage to get enough fuel to get me back after several stops to go through the process again

An electric fuel pump is a good upgrade, especially for addressing the problems of hot starting. Not expensive or difficult. However you may be being a bit harsh on the mechanical pump as if you have to wiggle the fuel pipes it may be that they are partially collapsed inside (if original they would be getting on a bit). I would change the flexible fuel pipes in any case and blow out any fixed pipes that may be on the system with a compressor. Also take the fuel level sender unit out of the tank as there is a gauze filter on the end of the pick up pipe that can easily get gunged up.

Always a good thing to do to replace fuel lines. Modern unleaded petrol breaks down the rubber on the original fuel lines over a period of time.
Also replace the fuel filter while you're at it.
